Fantastic Four 2 Update Reveals Likely Director for MCU Sequel

According to a recent update by Jeff Sneider at The InSneider, it appears that Disney may have already chosen a director for the upcoming film “The Fantastic Four 2“, and they are optimistic about the potential success of this sequel.

Who is potentially directing The Fantastic Four 2?

Based on information from Sneider, it’s looking probable that Matt Shakman, who directed the initial film and MCU miniseries WandaVision, might be back to direct a follow-up. Regarding the movie’s box office performance, Sneider hinted that, while the film didn’t excel significantly so far, Marvel executives anticipate better returns for the sequel once The Fantastic Four are more prominently featured in the upcoming Avengers films, Avengers: Doomsday and Avenges: Secret Wars.

Following Sneider’s assessment, his remarks echo those of Disney CEO Bob Iger, who commended The Fantastic Four: First Steps for effectively establishing a significant franchise within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, despite not generating revenue comparable to blockbusters such as The Avengers.

In its second weekend, the movie “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” experienced a significant decrease of 66%, which is quite unusual for a film that has received positive reviews from both critics and viewers. Given its recent drop, it seems likely that the box office earnings for “First Steps” will fall below those of “Superman,” the DCU film that was released a week before.

In a lively, 1960s-inspired setting that blends elements of the past and future, Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps presents the debut of Marvel’s founding family. The quartet includes Reed Richards (Mister Fantastic), Sue Storm (Invisible Woman), Johnny Storm (Human Torch), and Ben Grimm (The Thing). They are about to confront their toughest challenge yet, as per the movie’s synopsis.

On this particular venture, Kevin Feige takes on the role of the producer, with Louis D’Esposito, Grant Curtis, and Tim Lewis serving as executive producers. Mitch Bell collaborates as a co-producer, and the music is crafted by Michael Giacchino.

On July 25, 2025, the movie “The First Steps of The Fantastic Four” is set to hit U.S. cinemas. It’s official that Pascal, Kirby, Quinn, and Moss-Bachrach will reprise their roles in “Avengers: Doomsday,” slated for release in December 2026.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps is available in theaters now.
