FanSided MMA contributor's UFC 306 predictions

As a seasoned mixed martial arts enthusiast with over two decades of experience under my belt (no pun intended), I find myself intrigued by the upcoming match between Marlon Vera and Sean O’Malley. My prediction? O’Malley via TKO/KO in round 2.

UFC 306 is poised to break all previous records for UFC fight cards, according to Dana White. This exciting event, known as “Noche UFC,” will unfold at The Sphere in Las Vegas and serve as a heartfelt tribute to the Mexican community, marking the celebration of Mexican Independence Day.

Sean O’Malley vs. Merab Dvalishvili predictions

Dvalishvili presents a significant challenge for O’Malley due to his relentless pressure and offensive wrestling, which have overwhelmed his opponents and contributed to an impressive 10-fight win streak. O’Malley, however, will aim to counter Dvalishvili’s style by timing his strikes effectively to keep Dvalishvili on the back foot. The key to victory for the champion lies in preventing Dvalishvili from establishing his rhythm in the matchup. O’Malley has demonstrated that he is one of the UFC’s elite strikers, possessing the power to knock out anyone, and Dvalishvili is no exception. It’s reasonable to assume that Dvalishvili may become frustrated while trying to find an opening against the much taller O’Malley. He may experience a similar fate as Sterling, getting caught by a perfectly timed countershot while attempting to close the distance.
Prediction: Sean O’Malley by Round 3 TKO
By Amos C. Mina

Prediction: Sean O’Malley is expected to win via Technical Knockout or Knockout in the second round. Despite Dvalishvili being a formidable grappler, O’Malley and his team are well-prepared for this aspect of the fight. Although Dvalishvili has dominated grapplers like Petr Yan and Henry Cejudo, he has struggled to secure finishes in the UFC. This suggests that O’Malley might focus on striking at a distance, being cautious with kicks to avoid takedown attempts. However, O’Malley will aim to counter Dvalishvili’s takedown attempts with knees, as he demonstrated against Marlon Vera at UFC 299. If his technique is similar in this fight, a finish before the championship rounds is likely.

In this upcoming UFC fight, the cardio master, O’Malley, faces off against the current UFC golden boy, Dvalishvili. On paper, Dvalishvili has had a more impressive run leading up to this title opportunity. Many believe he is destined to become champion over the past few years, but critics have occasionally criticized him for not fighting his teammate and former champ Aljamain Sterling when he was clearly the top contender for the 135-pound title. Dvalishvili’s strengths lie in his endless stamina and powerful takedowns. O’Malley, on the other hand, has displayed exceptional striking abilities with impressive power that has defeated some of his toughest opponents. A lesser-known aspect of O’Malley’s skills is his ground game. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated his ability to defend against takedowns and has a grappling background outside of the UFC that shows he feels comfortable on the mat. Dvalishvili possesses the tools to beat O’Malley, but I predict we will see a strategic performance from the champion. Dvalishvili’s strategy would be to control O’Malley’s legs and score a takedown, but repeatedly doing so over five rounds may be challenging due to O’Malley’s size and abilities. Instead, I believe O’Malley will use his reach and height advantage to keep Dvalishvili at bay enough to thwart his takedown attempts while landing more strikes, resulting in a unanimous decision victory.

In this match-up, we have two top-tier fighters, O’Malley and Dvalishvili, both riding winning streaks. A multi-faceted, aggressive, endurance powerhouse faces off against a sharp-witted, powerful marksman with a high IQ. Both have clear strategies for victory, but the outcome will hinge on who can effectively execute their plan. O’Malley appears to have the edge due to Dvalishvili’s questionable defense, although his recent eyebrow injury and reported staph infection may affect his performance. This fight is shaping up to be akin to Conor McGregor vs. Eddie Alvarez.

Alexa Grasso vs. Valentina Shevchenko prediction

As a devoted fan, I find myself equally thrilled for the upcoming third bout between these two exceptional fighters. They’re on par, each possessing top-tier abilities and an intimate understanding of each other’s styles. Given their history, I lean towards the younger fighter, Grasso, to emerge victorious in this matchup.

In this upcoming fight, the victor is expected to mark an end to their ongoing rivalry. Grasso has demonstrated impressive boxing and grappling abilities, while Shevchenko boasts exceptional Muay Thai skills and strong ground techniques. Both women are anticipated to engage in a back-and-forth battle throughout the five rounds. To secure victory, Shevchenko must leverage her past dominance and prevent Grasso from setting the pace; otherwise, the judges’ decision might once again be close.

In their recent fights, Grasso and Shevchenko have a record of one win, one loss, and one draw. Grasso won the first encounter at UFC 285 through a submission in the fourth round, which was a significant upset. However, their second fight ended in a draw at Noche UFC. Shevchenko was leading the first fight until its conclusion but should have won the second fight if not for an unfair decision by one judge. As they prepare for their next match, Grasso has more potential to grow in skill, especially improving her takedown defense and landing knockout blows. Given her youth advantage over Shevchenko, Ethan Collins predicts that Grasso will secure a Technical Knockout (TKO) in round three.

In her initial trilogy fight against Alexa Grasso, Valentina Shevchenko aims to bring closure to their rivalry decisively, silencing any remaining doubters. Following a contentious decision that resulted in a draw in their last encounter, Shevchenko understands this could be her last opportunity at the title as long as Grasso retains the belt. She intends to eliminate that factor this time around, while maintaining composure to avoid repeating mistakes that led to her submission loss in their first bout. Many spectators felt she deserved the victory in their previous match-up, and I believe she’ll press harder in the later rounds and attempt to knock Grasso out before the final bell.
