Fans Slam Garth Brooks After ‘Butchered’ Duet Amid Scandalous Lawsuit Drama
On Wednesday, during the Grand Ole Opry’s centennial celebration, Garth Brooks teamed up with his wife Trisha Yearwood for a heartfelt tribute to the late country music legends George Jones and Tammy Wynette.
Despite the 63-year-old country legend receiving mixed feedback on social media for his duet performance at Opry 100: A Live Celebration, his singing voice and style choices were heavily criticized. However, his 60-year-old wife’s part of the duet was highly praised by fans.
Three months ago, the contentious show took place, following a legal setback when a judge refused to dismiss a sexual assault lawsuit that had been brought against him in court.
Brooks strongly refutes the accusations, originating from a makeup artist who previously worked with Yearwood.
Prior to taking the stage at the renowned theater, the singer contemplated on the past evolution of country music.
Brooks commented, “With a century of country music behind us, it’s a history that’s deep indeed. When discussing the greats in country music, expect a query about the best singer within minutes. If you ask a hundred people, you’ll get a hundred unique answers.

‘But for me, it’s who it always was and who it always will be: George Jones,’ he declared.
It was no shock that Brooks, too, believed the best country song was sung by Jones.
It didn’t come as a surprise when Brooks agreed with the assessment that Jones had sung the finest country tune.
He specifically highlighted the enduring masterpiece “He Stopped Loving Her Today,” a song penned by Bobby Braddock and Curly Putman, and originally sung by Jones in 1980.
The tune recounts a man’s pledge to continue loving a woman who walked away from him, and it isn’t until his passing that the speaker acknowledges the man no longer harbors feelings for his former love.
Following his solo act, which included playing an acoustic guitar, Brooks brought his wife Trisha up on stage to portray Tammy Wynette in a duet for the song “Your Good Girl’s Gonna Go Bad.” They then performed another one of their well-known duets, “Golden Ring,” although neither Jones nor Wynette were the original writers for either piece.
Jones and Wynette were both on their third marriage when they tied the knot in 1969.
Offstage, they were adored like a harmonious pair, but their private life was strained due to his persistent battles with alcoholism.
Or:
On stage, they were cherished as a seamless duo, yet behind the curtains, their marriage endured the challenges of his continuous alcohol addiction struggles.
Following a failed divorce attempt in 1973, Wynette re-filed for divorce in 1975. However, they managed to resolve their disputes and collaborated on stage later in life. They even joined forces to record one last album together in 1995.

Wynette later died in 1998, while Jones passed away in 2013.
Although it was evident that Brooks harbored a strong affection for the music of Jones and Wynette, numerous social media users remained unconvinced.
In my role as a lifestyle expert, I must admit that when it comes to emulating Jones’ unique aesthetic, Brooks seemed to miss the mark for some folks. Some argued that he gave it a go but ultimately fell short, while others felt he didn’t put in enough effort from the get-go.
A viewer criticized on X (previously known as Twitter), saying they wished Garth had simply sung the song rather than attempting to mimic George.
Another viewer commented, “Garth Brooks wasn’t even close to tying Jones’ shoes. Jones was leagues ahead of him in talent.
A supporter criticized Brooks and Yearwood, calling them the “most deceptive figures in country music,” and described their tribute as “awful.
Others dug Yearwood’s performance but didn’t think her husband reached the same heights.
‘Trisha killed it. Garth butchered it,’ one fan wrote bluntly.

Another opined that ‘Trisha is singing circles around this bum Garth.’
One viewer commented that they were emulating the intensity of late George and Tammy, using a phrase that requires some familiarity with their relationship, seemingly in a critical manner. This is suggested by another post: ‘I dislike Garth Brooks just as much, and I despise everyone praising him.’
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I’ve noticed some playful banter from fellow country music lovers about Garth Brooks and his hairstyle. They’ve expressed that they believe it might be a tad too unnatural-looking due to the hair dye. But remember, everyone has their own unique style!
‘Garth gotta give up the Just for Men 😂😂,’ one poster joked.
But some viewers appreciated Garth’s performance.
‘Got dang, Garth Brooks nailed all those little inflections George Jones did!’ one fan enthused.
Another poster who wasn’t normally a Brooks fan also enjoyed the songs.
The first time someone praised Garth Brooks was when this compliment was given, specifically for his work on the Possum Tribute: “Well done!” they said, alluding to Jones’ nickname.

Following Fox News’ report, the contentious behavior occurred after Brooks’ appeal to drop his sexual assault case was denied.
In November, the country artist submitted a motion in the Central District of California. This motion was later dismissed by US District Judge Michael Fitzgerald, but it was a dismissal that can be re-filed in the future.
The original action in Mississippi had not yet been resolved, so the judge instructed that the California case should be put on hold temporarily.
The Grammy winner then requested the case in California be moved to Mississippi.
In court documents submitted to a California state court in October, it was alleged by a past makeup artist employed by Trisha Yearwood that he had been subjected to sexual assault and battery by his employer (Trisha Yearwood’s husband).
Prior to the makeup artist lodging her complaint, Brooks had already become cognizant of her accusations. In response, he secretly initiated legal action under the pseudonym ‘John Doe’, filing a counter-suit in Mississippi during September, according to CNN’s reports.
Initially, Jane Roe was employed to style hair and apply makeup for Yearwood back in 1999. Later on, Brooks requested her services for the same purpose in 2017, according to her account.
In October, the person known only as ‘Jane Roe’ (the plaintiff) filed their case anonymously. They claim that the country music star took them to Los Angeles with him, for a Grammy event celebrating R&B singer Sam Moore in May 2019.

In the lawsuit, the plaintiff alleges that the artist known for “Friends in Low Places” reserved only a shared hotel suite during their stay, but when she requested individual accommodations, he failed to comply with her request.
The court documents acquired by Dailymail.com further claim that she alleged he exposed himself to her in the doorway without clothes, forced her into another room, suspended her upside-down by her feet, and sexually assaulted her.
In her court case, the makeup artist claimed that Brooks had sent her inappropriate texts containing suggestive content, discussed his sexual desires such as proposing threesomes involving his wife Trisha Yearwood.
In my line of work as a lifestyle advisor, I’ve had unfortunate encounters where individuals have crossed boundaries. Specifically, I’ve been placed in situations where an individual exposed himself inappropriately by exposing his buttocks and genitals to me on multiple instances. Additionally, this person frequently changed clothes in my presence, which made for uncomfortable and unprofessional interactions.
As stated by the makeup artist’s attire, it is alleged that Brooks made unwanted advances towards her at his residence in 2019, a time prior to their trip to Los Angeles, where she claims the rape took place.
According to her statement, she asserted that she had been at Brooks’ residence, patiently waiting for their scheduled makeup session, when unexpectedly, he stepped out of the shower in a state of nudity and arousal.
She claimed that he subsequently took hold of her hands and compelled them towards his arousal, confessing that he had desires for her to give him oral sex while she wore her glasses, which would culminate in him reaching orgasm by ejaculating on her face.
Following the submission of the complaint by the makeup artist, the artist refuted the rape allegations made against him, labeling it as an attempted extortion using ‘silencing money’.

Brooks addressed the allegations in a statement to DailyMail.com, saying he has been constantly troubled by harassment, false claims, and heart-wrenching stories about his future if he didn’t pay a substantial amount of money.
In my perspective as a lifestyle advisor, any form of payment meant to silence someone, be it a large or small amount, is still hush money. To me, this implies an acknowledgement of actions that I find unacceptable – deeds so ugly and inhumane that no one should inflict upon another human being.
Brooks, who had earlier refuted the allegations in a lawsuit under the pseudonym ‘John Doe’, stated: “Approximately a month ago, we initiated a lawsuit against this individual to counteract extortion and character defamation. We chose anonymity during the filing process to protect the families involved on both sides.
Brooks said the situation ‘has been like having a loaded gun waved in my face.’
He expressed, ‘I’m planning to enjoy some music this evening. I aim to keep up our charitable actions in the future. It saddens me deeply that these wonderful acts are being called into question now. I place my faith in the system, I am not afraid of the truth, and I am not the person they have portrayed me as.’
Garth and Trisha have been together since 2005, but he previously had three kids with an ex-spouse named Sandy Mahl.
