Fans seethe over Dancing With The Stars Australia double elimination as fan-favourite Julie Goodwin is sent home and judges insist there is no ‘favouritism’: ‘Has to be rigged’
As a dedicated follower of Dancing with the Stars for many years now, I must say that this season has been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride. The double elimination of Nova Peris and Julie Goodwin has left me utterly bewildered and disappointed.
Fans Down Under are expressing their displeasure towards Dancing with the Stars following a surprising double elimination, resulting in the departure of contestants Nova Peris and beloved figure Julie Goodwin.
A large number of people tuned into X on Sunday evening to show their dismay when the well-liked MasterChef celebrity, age 53, was eliminated from the competition, apparently having won over the judges earlier.
A portion of spectators even insinuated that the dance contest was fixed, while others proposed that Ben Cousins, who received lower scores from the judges compared to Julie, ought to have been eliminated instead.
‘Well, that’s certainly… unexpected,’ one user wrote after the elimination was announced and Nova, 53, and Julie said their goodbyes.
‘WTF Julie should of got to stay,’ another wrote, while someone else said: ‘Julie ripped off bad.’
A fourth person chimed in, saying, “‘They’re really attempting to rehabilitate Ben,'” while another queried, “‘Who’s actually supporting Ben? Honestly…'”.
‘How on earth does Ben keep surviving? Has to be rigged for their whole bs “redemption arc.”‘
After the unexpected dismissal of contestants Nova, Julie, and popular chef Hayden Quinn during the previous round, Judge Helen Richey felt compelled to address allegations suggesting bias or favoritism in the competition.
As a lifestyle expert, I can’t help but notice the consistent disappointment among fans each week as gifted contestants who impress the judges are eliminated during the public voting rounds. It’s a bit disheartening to see such talent going unrecognized by the audience.
Although eliminations are determined by a blend of audience votes and judge evaluations, there has been a claim that certain judges show bias towards certain contestants, as per New Idea’s latest report.
79-year-old retired judge Helen, once a skilled ballroom and Latin dancer in competitions, shared with the media that there might be some skepticism, but the judges and competitors are generally segregated.
Indeed, many skilled dancers I’m familiar with, as my husband Robert and I have even mentored some of them, but during performances, we maintain no involvement with them.
We strive to ensure that the competition is completely balanced, giving an equal opportunity to both celebrities and their professional dance partners.
Julia and Nova were both sent home on Sunday night after failing to impress voters at home.
Following an exhilarating joint act to Kylie Minogue’s “Step Back in Time,” the pairs then competed against each other to secure a spot in the Semi Finals.
During the time when discos were popular, Nova primarily danced the Cha Cha, but Helen pointed out that she tended to stick to what she was capable of. (Paraphrased)
Nova scored 19 points, and it was not enough to save her despite making a valiant effort.
Meanwhile, Julie returned to the floor with an impressive Foxtrot, scoring a healthy 27 points.
The judges affectionately referred to her as “an alluring fox,” “a playful imp,” and even “a commanding mistress” following her passionate act.
Without a dance-off, Nova and Julie found themselves at the bottom of the rankings and had to leave the competition.
Julie chuckled as she said, “Not everything in life can be won,” alluding to her recent disappointing news, which drew laughter from the crowd.
‘I’ve had an absolute ball and it’s been fun. And I’ve lived my dream,’ she added.
Nova admitted she was disappointed to be leaving so close to the finals.
‘Look, I’m so sad to not be dancing the next few weeks,’ the Olympic gold medal winner said.
She expressed that it has been an extraordinarily enchanting journey, one that is challenging to describe accurately. However, this encounter will undeniably change her perspective as she moves forward in life.
On this particular evening, the standout acts were delivered by Samantha Jade and her dance partner Gustavo Viglio, earning them a score of 39 points.
At the pinnacle of the group were actress Lisa McCune and her dance partner, Ian Waite, who also garnered 39 points.
Emulating the spirit of Lady Gaga, comedian Nikki Osborne dazzled with her Rumba performance, which earned her a resounding applause and a score of 35 points.
Dancing With The Stars continues 7pm, Sunday on Channel 7 and 7plus.
