As a devoted viewer, I’m thrilled to share that my current favorite six-part series has climbed up to the fourth position in the US Top 10. It’s trailing slightly behind the captivating shows like “Win or Lose,” “Daredevil: Born Again,” and “Mufasa: The Lion King.” I can’t wait to see where it goes from here!
David Blaine: Don’t Try This at Home is a six-episode series that takes us on a journey around the world, showcasing different perspectives using the art of magic.
Exploring remarkable individuals who seem to work miracles, Blaine invites us on an awe-inspiring adventure through diverse cultural landscapes in search of like-minded souls, creative stimuli, and extraordinary abilities.
In an interview with Variety, Blaine opened up about the unique experience of performing as the magician rather than the trick’s subject.
He exclaimed, “I’m the one fleeing with shock, yelling out, ‘This is insane!’ That’s what sets this program apart,” he stated.
When observing my favorite magicians perform, I tend to shout with excitement and lose control. However, when it’s my turn to perform magic for others, I need to suppress these reactions. Occasionally, my genuine self slips out a bit.
In my initial performance titled “Street Magic,” there are instances where young women become startled and flee from me in Times Square. If you observe closely, you’ll notice a brief, subtle smile on my face. However, I make an effort to conceal it.
At around age six or seven, my mother – a single parent residing in Brooklyn – presented me with a Tarot card deck.
I could perform magic tricks for her friends, but they’d become overly excited. In my mind, a true magician wouldn’t exclaim ‘Ta-da!’ Instead, he would create something astonishing and allow them to ponder what I might be thinking.
As I began producing films and television series, I simply held onto that aspect. I adopted a minimalistic style, favoring the concept of ‘more with less.’
However, during that period, many magicians were displeased as they believed magicians should have a specific script or dialogue, which I didn’t. Instead, I would barely speak and whisper, a style that felt more natural to me.
