Fans of How to Train Your Dragon, Here’s Where You Can See More of Mason Thames
Through Universal’s successful summer blockbuster, “How to Train Your Dragon“, more people are either encountering or re-encountering Mason Thames, who portrays Hiccup. This latest production remains remarkably true to the initial animated movie and presents the age-old story to new spectators.
In a Viking village lives a young lad named Hiccup, who has grown up surrounded by people taught to hunt and slay dragons. However, when Hiccup encounters Toothless, a fearsome Nightfury dragon, he finds himself unable to kill him. This encounter gradually makes Hiccup question the long-held belief of his village that these creatures are their mortal enemies.
In the updated version, Gerard Butler reprises his role as Stoick, Hiccup’s father, now brought to life in a live-action setting. Joining him are new cast members such as Nico Parker who plays Astrid, Julian Dennison as Fishlegs, and Gabriel Howell as Snotlout, among others.

Monster Summer – 2024
Prior to his role in “How to Train Your Dragon”, young actor Mason Thames played Noah Reed, a child whose exciting summer vacation was disrupted by a terrifying supernatural menace that was stealing the spirits of children from the neighborhood.
Featuring alongside Thames is Mel Gibson portraying Gene Carruthers, Julian Lerner as Eugene Wexler, Abby James Witherspoon as Sammy Devers, Noah Cottrell as Ben Driskel, Kevin James, fresh from his role in the action comedy “Guns Up”, playing Edgar Palmer, and many more.
Earlier on, we had a chat with the cast concerning their exhilarating, all-ages friendly horror journey, details of which you can find right here.
Monster Summer is now available to purchase digitally and on physical media.
Incoming – 2024
In contrast to Mason Thames’ previous roles in horror productions, his part in Netflix’s “Incoming” represents a significant shift. Rather than delving deep into the horror genre, it veers towards an R-rated, teenage, coming-of-age comedy instead.
The narrative focuses on Benj Nielsen (played by Mason Thames) along with his companions Eddie (portrayed by Ramon Reed) and Connor (Raphel Alejandro), as they experience the excitement of their initial high school party. Predictably, events take a turn for the wild, leading to a series of unpredictable antics.
Recently, I had a conversation with rising star Raphael Alejandro shortly following the premiere of the film. During our chat, we delved into his experience filming the particularly disturbing Tesla scene in the movie.
Incoming is now streaming on Netflix.
Black Phone – 2021
In 2021, the film “Black Phone” marked the breakthrough for Mason Thames in the entertainment industry. It tells the story of Thames’ character, Finney, a teenager who gets kidnapped by a notorious serial child-killer known as The Grabber, portrayed by Ethan Hawke, who has been causing havoc among the community.
But the chilling slayer is just part of the tale. Inside the cellar where Finney gets trapped, there’s an enigmatic old rotary telephone that allows him to conversely talk with the spirits of The Grabber’s former victims.
Black Phone is now available to purchase digitally and on physical media.
Black Phone 2 – October 17, 2025
Given the tremendous success of the initial “Black Phone” movie, it’s entirely understandable why Universal and Blumhouse would aim to reunite the team for a follow-up installment.
Although it appeared that Ethan Hawke’s character, the Grabber, might not have any chance for a comeback in Black Phone. However, this sequel manages to offer a fresh take while still maintaining a sense of familiarity.
As a movie enthusiast, I can’t help but notice the chilling similarities between “Black Phone 2” and the evolution of a new horror icon – The Grabber seems to be taking on the role once played by Freddy Kruger, which is far from good news for Mason Thames’ character, Finney. After his harrowing first encounter with this menacing figure, Finney must now brace himself for another terrifying round.
Black Phone 2 is set to hit theaters on October 17, 2025.
How to Train Your Dragon 2 – June 11, 2027
Months before “How to Train Your Dragon” was released in theaters, there was an announcement about “How to Train Your Dragon 2” at CinemaCon 2025. It seems Universal had a good sense of the movie’s success potential, as it ended up impressing critics, audiences, and the box office alike.
In the case of “How to Train Your Dragon 2”, the specific plot details are still unknown, but it’s reasonable to expect that it might continue along similar lines as the original animated sequel. The story unfolds five years after the initial film, where we encounter Hiccup’s long-lost mother for the first time, and also meet Drago Bludvist, a menacing character who leads an army of dragons.
How to Train Your Dragon 2 is set to premiere in theaters on June 11, 2027.
