Fans of beloved BBC sitcom Ghosts are convinced of its return after spotting cryptic social posts

Fans of the show Ghosts are buzzing with excitement, believing a revival is on the way after some mysterious online posts. The popular sitcom, which ran from 2019 to 2023, centers around a couple who find their new countryside home is already occupied – by ghosts!

The show stars Charlotte Ritchie and Kiell Smith-Bynoe, and features a cast of ghosts from various eras played by the series’ creators – Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard, and Ben Willbond. It’s become very popular with viewers.

Although fans were devastated when the show ended three years ago, a recent post on social media from several of the original cast members has sparked some hope for a possible return.

In it, the door to Button House is seen opening, though anything further remains a mystery for now.

Fans reacted with excitement and confusion. One exclaimed, “Oh my god, what’s happening!” while another asked, “What does this all mean?”

Someone excitedly asked if they’d be able to revisit Button House, as rumors spread about a possible movie or television adaptation.

Fans are eagerly asking if the popular show Ghosts will be adapted into a movie, Christmas special, or new series. One fan pleaded, “Please tell me it’s a Ghosts movie!” while another begged for any new content, saying, “Please, please make a Ghosts film or something!”

The show Ghosts finished with a Christmas episode, and shortly after, several of the cast members discussed with Digital Spy the reasons behind their decision to end the series.

“It was a purely emotional decision, if I’m honest,” Rickard said. “Eventually, TV shows lose viewers and get cancelled, naturally. They’re always replaced by something else that captures the public’s attention.”

Honestly, we were really worried about making an episode that wasn’t as good as the ones we’d already put out. It’s always in the back of your mind, you know? We didn’t want to mess up the quality.

From the beginning of series 4, we’d been discussing how long the show should run. We all generally agreed that if we got renewed for a fifth series, that would be the right time to end it.

We all had other plans, and honestly, every time I talk to people about pausing the show, I worry we’ve made a mistake – we enjoy working on it so much. I’d be really disappointed if we got to season seven and fans wondered what happened to Ghosts, remembering it as a show that used to be great.

Ghosts seasons 1-5 are streaming now on BBC iPlayer.
