Fan Service by Rosie Danan is an ode to fandom and much more
Some romance writers consistently follow a specific style, but Rosie Danan isn’t bound by such limitations. Instead, she demonstrates versatility in her writing.
Instead of continuing with “The Shameless Series,” she’s switched things up in her writing. Last year, we enjoyed the enemies-to-lovers tale, “Do Your Worst.” Now, she’s about to publish a book that every Tumblr girl would love to read: “Fan Service.
In 2025, discussing Tumblr – it’s quite intriguing! Since wrapping up reading “Fan Service“, I’ve been pondering over what’s happening there. The cover itself offers a massive clue about the TV shows that this book seems to be drawing inspiration from.
Regardless, let’s discuss that topic momentarily. I appreciate Berkeley for providing me with an Advanced Reading Copy (ARC), allowing me to read and evaluate it ahead of time.
Fan Service is a love letter to fandom, romance, and much more.
In “Fan Service,” we’re initially introduced to two key figures: Alex, an ardent enthusiast of The Arcane Files who adores the show deeply, and Devin, the talented actor who starred as the lead character in the series. Their first encounter unfolds, unfortunately for Alex, turning into a fiasco that leaves her with a deep-seated dislike for Devin.
A few years down the line, Devin finds himself in a predicament where he’s seen performing some sort of metamorphosis, reminiscent of his character’s transformations on the show. Initially, people assume it’s just a publicity gimmick, but it quickly becomes apparent that Devin is indeed in trouble. To unravel the mystery, he reaches out to Alex, the curator of The Arcane Files forum. Skeptical at first, she doubts his identity until he physically appears in her hometown.
Following their agreement regarding payment, Alex becomes curious about Devin’s situation and whether he genuinely transforms into a werewolf. Though it might seem a bit outlandish, it’s undeniably entertaining. The narrative not only showcases the blossoming relationship between Alex and Devin, but also the extraordinary techniques Alex uses to manage him are truly astounding.
In a manner that doesn’t spoil too much, “Fan Service” truly delivers on its promise, catering significantly to enthusiasts of popular shows from the 2000s and 2010s such as “Teen Wolf”, “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”, “Supernatural”, and “The Vampire Diaries”. Although it may not mirror your cherished series exactly, its narrative within this book becomes even more engaging. Moreover, let’s face it, there are subtle hints to “Twilight” as well, which is something we can all admire.
If you’re in the mood for a thrilling paranormal romance filled with intense chemistry and lots of exciting events, then you’ll surely enjoy “Fan Service“. Once again, Rosie Danan delivers an outstanding romance that leaves me even more eager to see what she has planned next.
Fan Service by Rosie Danan is out now where books are sold.
