The second installment of “The Walking Dead: Dead City” has been well-received by viewers, quickly climbing up popular charts.
In this new show, which serves as a continuation and spin-off from “The Walking Dead,” characters Maggie (played by Lauren Cohan) and Negan (portrayed by Jeffrey Dean Morgan) return. The story unfolds as they maneuver through a New York City overrun with zombies.
Eli Jorné’s series made a comeback on British television screens on July 10th for its eight-episode second season, and it has been well-received by audiences, climbing up to the second most-watched spot on the streaming platform NOW.
Although it’s been well-received by viewers, its critical acclaim has been somewhat divided, with a 63% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on eight reviews so far. This is significantly lower than its previous version, which garnered an 80% score from 57 reviews.
In the second season of “The Walking Dead: Dead City“, things get even more bizarre as new, quirky groups are introduced. Meanwhile, the series maintains its deep exploration of Maggie and Negan’s characters. According to ScreenRant, it’s described as “fascinatingly off-kilter”, while CBR uses “starkly captivating” to describe it.

In their review, FandomWire stated that Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan effortlessly meet expectations as Negan and Maggie in season two, making it a captivating watch. Meanwhile, Total Film noted that the season offers much to appreciate.
The Collider expressed some disappointment, noting that not much of the story remained to be told. Similarly, the Decider shared this viewpoint, stating that there wasn’t anything fresh or interesting to explore further in the extended series.

The series is the fifth installment of its franchise, following closely behind “Fear the Walking Dead,” “World Beyond,” and “Tales of the Walking Dead.” These spin-offs continue the storyline from the original series. In the past couple of years, additional offshoots such as “Dead City” and “Daryl Dixon” have emerged, with “The Ones Who Live” also being introduced.
Meanwhile, as the second season of Dead City ranks number 2 on NOW’s streaming rankings, it’s worth noting that The Rookie, a crime drama featuring Nathan Fillion and Alyssa Diaz, was the only series to surpass Dead City’s performance during this period.
The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2 is streaming on NOW.
