Bryton James, known for his roles in shows like Family Matters and The Young and the Restless, is getting divorced after just seven months of marriage.
Okay, so it looks like Bryton, who’s 39, has decided to file for divorce from Jahaira James. From what I’m hearing, it seems they’ve just grown apart – those ‘irreconcilable differences’ are often a way of saying things just didn’t work out. The paperwork was officially filed in Los Angeles yesterday.
The actor, who was born in Lakewood, California, married Jahaira in March, but they separated in June. They do not have any children together, according to the report.
According to reports, Bryton asked the court to end any future alimony payments to either him or Jahaira in their divorce. He also requested that Jahaira legally change her name back to her original maiden name once the divorce is complete.
Bryton McClure, known as Richie Crawford on the ABC show Family Matters, played the character for 143 episodes between 1990 and 1997.
For the past thirty years, Bryton James has appeared in over 1,687 episodes of The Young and the Restless, playing the character Devon Hamilton, as reported by IMDb.
Jahaira has also performed as a professional dancer, known as Jahaira Myers, according to Swoon magazine.
Jahaira, originally from North Carolina, has shared photos on her Instagram—where she has over 22,600 followers—of herself performing with famous artists like Beyoncé and Usher.
Bryton used Instagram on May 2nd to publicly support his wife’s work, according to Swoon. However, the original post is no longer available.
Bryton shared that what people are seeing is the result of a lifetime spent developing love, discipline, strength, and courage, qualities he continues to admire in his partner, @jahshonye.
The actor continued: ‘Her journey is what inspiration wants to be when it grows up.’
‘And I am beyond proud to be a witness to her art as we share this life together.’
Jahaira told Swoon that being able to share her life and the stage with someone was the greatest gift she could ask for.
She added, ‘Thank you for seeing me the way you do.’
Bryton was once married to Ashley Leisinger. They got married on March 16, 2011, with his Young & the Restless colleague, Christian LeBlanc, officiating the ceremony. They divorced in February 2014.
The actor discussed their relationship during a 2021 appearance on Maurice Benard’s State of Mind podcast.
Bryton said that he and Leisinger met when they were 17 and were together for most of their 20s.
Looking back, Bryton thinks he may not have learned some important life lessons before getting married to Leisinger.
Bryton described the feeling of complete independence – living life solely for yourself, with your own thoughts and experiences, unburdened by outside influence.
Bryton believes this is incredibly beneficial for young people, something he personally lacked before getting married.
He’s also previously dated his The Young and the Restless co-star Brytni Sarpy.
