Fame Academy star is unrecognisable 22 years after show as he continues music career gigging around England
22 years post his debut on Fame Academy, Alistair Griffin, a former contestant, bears little resemblance to his early days – yet, his passion for music continues unabated.
In 2003, a musician aged 47 gained notoriety on the BBC’s talent competition, which ultimately saw Alex Parker declared as the victor.
Currently, you’ll discover Alistair, formerly a student, now active on TikTok, creating videos centered around singing.
At the moment, Alistair is organizing a series of candlelit concerts, named “The Greatest Shows,” within York Minster.
Following his debut on the show, he released a song called Bring It On.
In more recent times, Alistair has found himself quite occupied, primarily focusing on composing songs. Remarkably, he penned the tune “I Wish for You the World,” which was performed by the Games Maker Choir during the 2012 Summer Olympics.
The artist has lately shared some details about his life post-fame and how he ventured into music following his triumph in the show.
He said: ‘I come from a little village in Yorkshire called Castleton.
‘Where there’s more sheep than people and there’s definitely not many pop stars.
‘I’ve always loved music and writing songs.
‘So I left Yorkshire and I went to London to pursue my dream.
‘And it wasn’t long before I ended up on one of the first TV talent shows.’
Alistair added: ‘Fame Academy was a cross between X Factor and Big Brother.
In a large shared dwelling, our group harmoniously resided. To sustain ourselves, we all contributed by singing. As time passed, we took turns getting eliminated through a vote – it was quite ruthless.
After that point, I’ve been consistently creating music. I even collaborated on a duet with Kimberley Walsh from Girls Aloud, and my track “Just Drive” was chosen as the theme song for Formula 1 racing events.

‘Met some great people along the way and I’m always up for an adventure.

In September, musician Gary Phelan – who was on the show with Alistair – died at the age of 42.
His passing was confirmed by friends on social media, and came as a huge shock to fans.
