Fallout’s Ella Purnell Teases ‘Buddy Road Trip’ With High Stakes for Lucy and the Ghoul in Season 2

The second season of Prime Video’s show will continue the story with new adventures, and will sometimes focus on the main characters traveling together as friends.

As a huge fan of the Fallout games, I was thrilled with the TV show when it came out in 2024 – it really delivered! Critics loved it, and it’s already racked up some major award nominations. The first season followed Lucy, played by Ella Purnell, as she searched for her dad in the post-apocalyptic wasteland, and she ended up teaming up with the fantastic Walton Goggins as The Ghoul/Cooper Howard and Aaron Moten as Maximus. I just read an interview with Ella Purnell where she’s talking about Season 2, and she described it as a lot like a ‘buddy road trip’ for Lucy and The Ghoul, but with incredibly high stakes for both of them. I can’t wait!

The first season of the show ended with a shocking discovery: Lucy learned her father, Hank MacLean, wasn’t what he seemed – he was a Vault-Tec employee frozen long ago and brought back to life centuries later. After escaping in powerful armor, Hank went on the run, and Lucy joined forces with The Ghoul to track him down. The actor playing Lucy hinted that their search will lead them to New Vegas.

Sometimes, their dynamic feels like a fun road trip with friends, but at other times they’re very distant and guarded,” Purnell explained about what viewers can anticipate.

I’m so excited about this road trip the actress talked about! Apparently, it’s not just a fun drive – it’s a real test for both of her and the Ghoul. She said they’re really trying to change each other, to see whose personality will win out. Will the Ghoul end up being a better person? Or will she start to go down a darker path? It’s going to be interesting to see where they both end up, maybe somewhere in between!

Justin Theroux joins Season 2 as Mr. House, a figure from The Ghoul’s history. The actor, known for The Leftovers, described their scenes together as intense and intellectually challenging, comparing the experience to performing Waiting for Godot within the show’s existing storyline.

Season 2 begins after the dramatic events of the first season finale, following the story as characters travel across the dangerous Mojave Wasteland to reach the ruined city of New Vegas.

Walton Goggins Teased Fallout Season 2 Is Better

The actor had nothing but praise for the show overall, but called Season 2 “” and that it “”

Speaking with Deadline recently, Goggins shared that filming is currently underway, having started in November. He believes the new season is even better than the first, which he already considered exceptional. He praised the writers and the entire production team for creating something truly special, and expressed his excitement for audiences to finally see it, noting they are all working incredibly hard to deliver a fantastic result.

Fallout Season 2 premieres on Dec. 17 on Prime Video.
