Fallout and the 7 most underrated shows of 2024

Fallout and the 7 most underrated shows of 2024

As someone who has spent countless hours engrossed in the ever-evolving landscape of television, I must say that this year has been particularly enlightening and entertaining. The array of shows showcased here is nothing short of extraordinary!

As we’re nearing the close of this year, it’s becoming increasingly important to shed light on some underappreciated TV series that have graced our screens in 2021. For me, this period at the end of the year offers an excellent opportunity to acknowledge shows that may not have received the attention, viewership, or recognition from audiences, fans, and critics they truly deserved.

If you missed any of the eight underrated shows of 2024, I highly recommend you give them a try when you have a chance. I guarantee you won’t be too disappointed.

In compiling this list, I focused exclusively on fresh series debuts. While there were numerous overlooked continuations of popular returning shows that aired their new seasons in 2024, I chose to highlight the 2024 premieres that deserved more recognition and acclaim from both fans and critics alike!

Let’s get the list started with one of the best new shows of the year, Fallout.

Fallout

Fallout and the 7 most underrated shows of 2024

Upon learning that Amazon Prime Video is developing a TV series based on “Fallout”, I must admit my initial doubts. After all, turning video games into successful television shows can be quite challenging, but recent examples such as “The Last of Us” have proven otherwise. Given the exceptional nature of “Fallout”, I am optimistic that it has the potential to become one of the standout shows this year. Despite receiving positive feedback from both fans and critics, as well as Emmy nominations, I still believe there’s room for growth in its popularity, which is why it appears on my list!

The Prime Video series, titled “Fallout,” follows the journey of Lucy (Ella Purnell), a resident of a Vault who is compelled to endure a post-nuclear wasteland Earth after her Vault is invaded by raiders. In addition to Aaron Moten, Kyle MacLachlan, Walton Goggins, Moisés Arias, Xelia Mendes-Jones, and others, the series features an impressive cast.

Amazon’s streaming service, Prime Video, has swiftly greenlit the second season of “Fallout”! Excitingly, they are already shooting it, so fans anticipating its release in 2025 will surely be pleased!

Black Doves

Fallout and the 7 most underrated shows of 2024

The suspenseful Christmas thriller “Black Doves” debuted on Netflix on December 5th, so it may no longer be overlooked by the end of the year. It’s one of my top spy series of the year and is among the best new shows that Netflix has offered in 2024.

The show centers around Keira Knightley as character Helen Webb, who is both a spy for Black Doves and married to the British Minister of Defense. When Helen’s lover meets an untimely end due to suspected murder of the Chinese Ambassador to the UK, she and her partner Sam (played by Ben Whishaw) embark on a mission to unravel the mystery behind these events.

The hit show “Black Doves” is making a return for its second season on Netflix! In an unexpected turn of events, Netflix has opted to bring the series back for another round. I’m thrilled to find out what lies ahead in the upcoming season.

If you haven’t seen this fun, moving series, Black Doves is the show for you before the end of the year.

Nobody Wants This

Fallout and the 7 most underrated shows of 2024

In an uncontested victory for Netflix original comedies in 2024, Nobody Wants This stands alone as the best new show, leaving other contenders far behind. Featuring the talented duo Kristen Bell and Adam Brody, this series debuted on Netflix on September 26th and swiftly became one of the most-watched shows of the fall season on the streaming platform.

Titled by Erin Foster, “Nobody Wants This“, weaves the tale of dating podcaster, Joanne (Bell), who finds herself drawn towards a rabbi, Noah (Brody). Despite their contrasting backgrounds, they navigate their way through the challenges to see if their relationship can succeed.

Despite having a substantial viewership, the show might not be considered “underrated.” However, its popularity seems to fall short of what it deserves. Critically speaking, the series has garnered positive reviews, but I don’t foresee it winning any major awards due to exceptional performances from its main cast.

Nobody Wants This is already renewed for season 2, but it sure seems like this show could be a lot more popular. It’s the perfect show to watch before the end of the year.

Supacell

I thoroughly enjoyed “Supacell”! This Netflix original series by Rapman debuted on June 28, and it turned out to be a massive success worldwide. With the first season laying the groundwork, it didn’t take long for Netflix to greenlight another season for “Supacell”.

In the country I reside in, which is the United States, I believe the show Supacell didn’t receive the recognition it deserved last year. Consequently, it should be included among the most overlooked TV series of 2024.

In simple terms, “Supacell” follows an assortment of ordinary South Londoners who unexpectedly find they possess extraordinary abilities. One member, Michael (Tosin Cole), receives a visit from his future self, who alarms him about the impending murder of his girlfriend Dionne (Adelayo Adedayo). However, Michael is in the dark as he only knows their first names, making it challenging to rally the team.

Alongside Cole and Adebayo, a host of other talented individuals such as Josh Tedeku, Eddie Marsan, Nadine Mills, Eric Kofi-Abrefa, Calvin Demba, Ghetts, Rayxia Ojo, and others grace the screens in this series.

As a fellow gaming enthusiast who enjoys superhero lore, let me recommend checking out the show called Supacell. It’s got an incredible amount of promise, and I can sense that we’re in for something truly special with this series.

The Day of the Jackal

Fallout and the 7 most underrated shows of 2024

Regarding British television productions, “The Day of the Jackal” is one of this year’s overlooked gems that has been gaining attention. This captivating series made its debut on Sky Atlantic in the UK on November 7 and was an instant success. In the UK, it’s garnering a lot of buzz. It arrived on Peacock in the US on November 14, and while it’s gradually growing in popularity, it hasn’t yet reached its full potential. This is why it finds itself listed among the most underestimated shows of 2024.

The show is adapted from a novel with the same title by Frederick Forsyth. It centers around a character known as The Jackal, portrayed by Eddie Redmayne, who assassinates a German politician from a remarkable distance. This act catches the notice of MI6 agent Bianca (Lashana Lynch), who becomes determined to prevent further killings, even if it means sacrificing her own family’s stability.

Redmayne and Lynch deliver outstanding performances in this thrilling cat-and-mouse series. If you begin watching now, you could potentially finish before the season 1 conclusion on December 12th, Thursday. Also, mark your calendars as “The Day of the Jackal” is returning for a second season.

Bodkin

Fallout and the 7 most underrated shows of 2024

Moving forward, our focus shifts to Ireland from the Isle of Man. There, you’ll find “Bodkin,” an original production by Netflix that while sharing some traits with true crime series, is purely fictional. This gives it the liberty to explore more daring and adventurous themes.

As I, a passionate gamer, delve into the captivating world of “Bodkin,” created by Jez Scharf, I find myself assuming the role of Gilbert Power, an intriguing podcaster embarking on an adventure to the quaint Irish village of Bodkin. Accompanied by my trusted assistant, Emmy (Robyn Cara), and tenacious investigative journalist, Dove (Siobhán Cullen), we’ve come to shed light on a decades-old mystery of three vanished souls.

The show “Bodkin” offers a thought-provoking dark comedy. I truly relished the initial season, despite its occasional absurdity. Regrettably, there’s been no update about a second season for “Bodkin”, and I suspect we won’t be seeing one.

Hysteria!

2024 has a fantastic new offering in the horror-comedy genre with “Hysteria!”, a Peacock original series launched on October 18th, which unfortunately isn’t getting the attention it deserves.

Matthew Scott Kane’s creation, titled “Hysteria!“, offers everything I’d expect from a show centered around the Satanic Panic. The narrative unfolds in a small town during the 1980s, where three teenagers – who are not real Satanists – are falsely accused of committing heinous crimes. Among the stars gracing this series are Bruce Campbell, Julie Bowen, Anna Camp, Emjay Anthony, Chiara Aurelia, Kezii Curtis, and Nikki Hahn.

This production, titled “Hysteria“, offers a captivating blend of elements. It’s a mix of the somber and sinister, yet it manages to inject humor and warmth at times as well. The pièce de résistance? The ensemble! You simply couldn’t ask for a more spot-on cast, and their performances are nothing short of exceptional.

We haven’t heard yet about a second season of “Hysteria!”, but if viewers tune in to see it, hopefully Peacock will notice the interest and swiftly renew the series for another season. That would be fantastic. Thank you.

Get Millie Black

As a fan, I couldn’t help but dive into the thrilling world of “Get Millie Black”, my favorite detective series of the year! Surprisingly, it only premiered on Channel 4 and HBO on November 25th. Time will tell if this show becomes a blockbuster or falters by its conclusion, but I’m willing to take that risk and see where this intriguing journey leads me.

In the show “Get Millie Black,” actress Tamara Lawrance portrays Detective Millie-Jean Black, a character who relocates from the UK back to Kingston, Jamaica. Upon her arrival, Detective Black embarks on an investigation into the vanishing of a young girl in this new setting.

To clarify, I must admit that I’m unsure about the direction of this television series. However, it’s undeniably one of the finest shows currently airing in terms of acting performances. I truly hope that Lawrence receives ample recognition and applause for his exceptional portrayal of this role!

Keep an eye out for further updates regarding “Get Millie Black” as it’s a hidden gem of a series that’s definitely worth watching!
