Faker tests positive for COVID-19, T1 confirms
As a long-time T1 fan and someone who has witnessed Faker’s incredible journey through the years, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions upon hearing about his latest COVID-19 diagnosis. It seems like every time he takes a step back, there’s always another challenge waiting for him to overcome.
T1 will prioritize Faker’s COVID-19 recovery to prepare for the upcoming LCK matches.
As a longtime fan of esports, particularly League of Legends (LoL), I was deeply saddened to hear that Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok, the legendary mid laner for T1, tested positive for COVID-19 on August 5th. Having followed Faker’s incredible career since its inception, I have witnessed firsthand his unparalleled skill and dedication to the game.
Initially, The Unstoppable Demon King and fellow Team 1 (T1) players were intended to participate in today’s WORLDS 23 CHAMPIONS SKIN SHOWCASE at LoL PARK. However, their coach, Roach, took his place instead. This suggests that apart from The Unstoppable Demon King, none of the other T1 players tested positive for COVID-19 as they still attended the event.
The COLLABORATIVE WORLD CHAMPIONS SKIN EXHIBITION, organized jointly by T1 and the LCK, offers fans a unique opportunity to witness T1 players debuting their Worlds 2023 character skins for the very first time. Originally planned as a venue for League of Legends legend Faker’s return to public events since his post-game clash with Gen.G.
Fans concerned about Faker’s condition
As a dedicated fan since 2013, I’ve witnessed instances where Faker, my favorite pro League of Legends player, had to step back from crucial events. Last season, during the LCK Summer 2023, Faker temporarily stepped away due to a hand injury, a period that was pivotal for Worlds 2023 qualification. In his absence, T1 Academy’s Mid Laner, Yoon “Poby” Sung-won, admirably filled in for him until Faker made his comeback on the stage three weeks later.
Lately, there’s renewed discussion about Faker’s wellbeing due to reports of him headbutting a wall following a defeat against Gen.G. The team has been under significant stress and scrutiny, particularly since their triumphs at Worlds 2023 and the recent EWC 2024.
Furthermore, Faker has been honored by being inducted into the League of Legends (LoL) Hall of Fame. To celebrate this achievement, a temporary “Faker Temple” event was held, increasing anticipation and the weight of expectations placed on him as the Greatest of All Time (GOAT).
Faker might miss upcoming LCK matches
As a dedicated League of Legends enthusiast, I can’t wait for the 8th week of the LCK! On August 9th, my favorite team T1 is set to face off against NS. The question on everyone’s mind, however, is whether Faker will be there to lead us to victory. It’s a mystery that has yet to be unraveled!
At present, Team T1 holds the fourth position in the total rankings, which offers them a fairly secure place in the Playoffs. Although many supporters of T1 urge Faker to take some rest and focus on the upcoming Playoffs, there are others who express worry about his potential absence during Week 8 of LCK 2024 when Team T1 faces off against NS and BRO. This concern arises due to the team’s past struggles in matches where their veteran player, Faker, was not present.
