Fake tan faux pas! Celebrity hairdresser Joh Bailey turns heads for the wrong reason at star-studded Gold Dinner in Sydney
He’s usually the one helping celebrities look red carpet ready.
But Joh Bailey suffered an unfortunate beauty blunder of his own on Wednesday night.
At the glamorous Gold Dinner charity event, the celebrity hairstylist from Sydney made an unexpected entrance with what seemed like a poorly applied and inconsistent self-tanner, garnering undesired focus due to his uneven complexion.
Bailey, renowned for styling the likes of Princess Diana, Zara Phillips, Elle Macpherson, Kylie Minogue, Paris Hilton, and Kim Kardashian, sported a sharp and traditional look in a sleek black tuxedo, featuring a velvet jacket, pristine white shirt, and a bowtie.
However, his sun-kissed face, noticeably tanned, and dramatically pale hands stood out vividly under the camera’s bright flashes, producing an intriguing contrast.
As Joh stood next to a glamorous woman in a strapless black dress and furry handbag on the media wall, his hands seemed noticeably lighter in color compared to his darkly tanned skin.

Regardless of a small mistake involving sunburn, Joh exuded positivity while interacting with Sydney’s affluent crowd.
In the year 2022, Bailey found himself in the limelight due to whispers about a three-stylist rivalry among famous hairdressers in Sydney’s fashionable Double Bay district.
A multitude of famous personalities graced the high-profile gathering, including the well-known duo, Natalie Barr and Matt Shirvington, from Sunrise.
At a highly exclusive charity gathering, often referred to as Australia’s equivalent of the Met Gala, funds are collected for the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation. Notably, each ticket comes at a steep price of $3500.
For the very first time, the Gold Dinner took place on the Parade Ground Lawn at the Royal Botanic Gardens. This location is nestled among some of Sydney’s most famous landmarks and offers a stunning backdrop due to the dazzling light show of Vivid Sydney.
Located near Government House, the famous Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge (both beautifully lit during the city’s celebrated Festival of Light), this year’s event focuses on the theme: “Brighten a Child’s World”.
It provides visitors with a meaningful, engaging encounter that’s closely linked to its mission, as it strives to collect an unprecedented $80 million – its most ambitious fundraising goal yet.

For nearly three decades, the Gold Dinner in Sydney has brought together Australia’s influential figures from politics and business to aid the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network via the SCHF.
The Gold Series has now extended to Perth, aiming to host events not only in Australia but also in the United States and the United Kingdom for Australian expatriates. This series is widely acknowledged as Australia’s most distinguished philanthropic endeavor.
Since it began in 1997, Sydney’s Gold Dinner has amassed more than $90 million, which has been used to improve the lives of ill children and their families by providing essential medical treatments and support services.
The Gold Dinner Committee is by Linda Penn and her son Joshua.
It includes an influential mix of business and philanthropic leaders.
