As an avid follower of Suzan Mutesi, I must confess that her social media presence has been a rollercoaster ride of emotions for me. On one hand, I admire her bold and vibrant personality that shines through her posts; on the other, the constant barrage of edited images leaves me feeling a tad disillusioned.

The well-known Australian influencer Suzan Mutesi, frequently referred to as a ‘questionable influencer,’ is once more drawing attention due to concerns about her genuine social media persona.

38-year-old Mutesi, famous for her flamboyant attire and eye-catching red carpet moments, has been found to excessively manipulate photos of herself digitally, significantly changing her looks on the internet.

Over the weekend, I came across some fascinating side-by-side comparisons on the Snark Instagram account, which highlighted the contrast between the genuine, unfiltered moments of a popular influencer named Suzan, and the highly edited photos she shares with her audience. It was truly enlightening to see the transformation!

In one collection of photos, Suzan is spotted donning a colorful attire inspired by Africa, complete with a grand, oversized headpiece.

The ‘before’ image captured her natural look, showing some texture in her skin and subtle makeup.

Instead, the revised version paints a distinct picture; it seems as if her skin has been flawlessly retouched, showcasing smoother curves and sharper facial features, notably a chiseled jawline, which lends her face a more defined sculpture-like quality.

At the Australian debut of Barbie, Suzan was photographed striking poses, dressed in a bright pink mini-dress that boasted a big bow and matched with vivid yellow gloves, grabbing everyone’s attention.

In the unedited image, she smiled warmly, her makeup looking fresh but natural.

The altered photo, however, gave her a chiselled nose, fuller lips, and an overall slimmer figure.

Her skin was perfectly unblemished, and the lighting was skillfully adjusted to heighten the dramatic impact.

In yet another eye-catching instance, Suzan was observed donning a bold black and silver dress featuring a high split.

In the original picture, the dress perfectly complemented her figure, reflecting its natural fit. However, in the altered image, it seemed as if her waist had been digitally slimmed and her legs extended.

Her skin appeared flawlessly polished, making the details on her dress stand out as well, hinting that the post-production work went beyond merely enhancing her facial features.

People on social media are frequently commenting that Suzan heavily relies on photo-editing apps, even going so far as to refer to her as the most loyal devotee of FaceApp.

A flurry of comments, expressing surprise and using phrases such as ‘She’s quite extraordinary’, along with various astounded emoticons, poured in from her followers, as they expressed their reactions to what appeared to be her unceasing efforts to portray an image of herself that had been digitally manipulated.

This isn’t the first time the controversial influencer has made headlines for editing her photos.

Previously, Suzan shared with Daily Mail Australia that she owes the creation of all her Instagram photos to her iPhone, along with applications like FaceTune and Adobe Photoshop.

Occasionally, the primary photographer at red carpet events may forget to carry their lighting equipment. This means that the camera settings aren’t always adjusted to suit darker-skinned individuals or other skin tones, as she pointed out.

‘It depends also on the room. Sometimes the lighting in the room… like the room is beautifully decorated but it’s got shadows and its dark.’

Susan usually checks to apply the ProRAW settings on her iPhone prior to someone else photographing her from below, to ensure high-quality results.

Afterward, she edits those images using applications such as FaceTune and Photoshop on her smartphone, aiming to improve or elevate the quality of her photos taken at red carpet events.

‘It helps when you have a good foundation obviously. If you don’t look amazing you’re not going to get the best shot,’ she joked.

Regarding the frequent appearance of smoky eye makeup with a dark tone in her Instagram posts, Suzan attributes it to suboptimal lighting conditions.

She mentioned that when using down lights, the effect is that they make your face appear dimmer rather than brighter, as seen in her formal red carpet photos.

When I enhance the brightness of that picture, it brings out the details and focuses on the eyes, however, you could also adjust the brightness on PhotoTune to emphasize your eyes slightly more, making the eyeliner stand out better. This way, you get a clearer view of your eye’s features.

Suzan revealed her favourite go-to editing app is FaceTune, which she will often use for event photos when there is poor lighting.

She occasionally uses the Photoshop application, but it’s crucial to ensure that your photograph is well-composed or has a good background before editing it within the app.

Adjusting the settings prior to taking a photograph allows for a more enhanced result, as making significant changes on the fly is typically not feasible, except when simply playing around,” she explained.
