Expedition X and Expedition Bigfoot return to Discovery Channel with spooky new adventures

As a lifelong fan of all things mysterious and unknown, I can hardly contain my excitement for Discovery Channel‘s August lineup! With its rich history of delving into the paranormal, supernatural, and true crime realms, this network has always been a beacon of intrigue for me.

The Discovery Channel will be reintroducing two popular shows in August, as well as a captivating special focusing on the mysterious case of Amelia Earhart, an aviator who vanished together with her aircraft in 1937.

As a seasoned explorer myself, I have always admired the thrill and adventure that comes with embarking on expeditions into the unknown. However, my respect and fascination for these journeys grew even more when I discovered Expedition X, hosted by none other than Josh Gates. This show is particularly intriguing because of the addition of a new member to the team this season – Heather Amaro, a third-generation paranormal researcher/investigator.

Expedition X premieres Wednesday, August 14 at 9:00 p.m. ET

In the opening episode of the new season, the trio consisting of Gates, Torres, and Amaro travel to West Virginia. Their mission there is to explore the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, a former psychiatric hospital with a chilling past that has gained notoriety for alleged supernatural occurrences.

The Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum functioned from 1864 until 1994, undergoing a few name changes. Initially designed for 250 patients, it accommodated as many as 2,400 people in the 1950s, which may have played a role in the eerie atmosphere often experienced by visitors to the premises.

Much like several elderly mental institutions, a significant number of deaths took place at Trans-Allegheny. During the 1950s, it served as the site for West Virginia’s Lobotomy Project. In the 1980s, patients deemed “unmanageable” were occasionally confined within cages on its premises.

In upcoming episodes of “Expedition X”, the crew delves into the myth of the Loch Ness Monster, the alleged swamp-dwelling beast in Florida called the skunk ape, and purported ghostly phenomena in old Savannah, Georgia.

Following the season premiere of Expedition X, stick around for Expedition Bigfoot

The fresh installment of “Expedition Bigfoot” kicks off concurrently at 10:00 p.m ET, as scientists Dr. Mireya Mayor, Russell Acord and Bryce Johnson continue their quest to uncover the truth about the legendary creature that has long been a symbol of cryptid lore.

Collaboratively, the group heads back to the enigmatic California coastline known as the Lost Coast, a place with numerous reports of Bigfoot sightings. Their objective this time around is to uncover signs of a breeding site. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, they are prepared for the challenge ahead.

On Wednesday, August 7th at 8:00 p.m., the premiere of “Finding Amelia” is scheduled on Discovery Channel. This special episode transports us back to 1945, where Australian troops stumbled upon Amelia Earhart’s plane, the crash site of which had been hidden for eight years in Papua, New Guinea.

Subsequently, we revert to the current timeframe where a team of experts employs the soldiers’ accounts, combined with an historical aerial reconnaissance map, in their quest to locate Amelia Earhart’s aircraft. Their ultimate goal is to possibly recover her remains and return them home.

We’ve got an extensive library of shows about the mysterious and criminal, and these three fresh additions make our upcoming lineup even more exciting!
