Expect Many More Nintendo Movies Going Forward

Nintendo has already successfully launched one movie, with two more on the way, and they’ve indicated they plan to continue making films beyond those projects.

Why should fans expect more Nintendo movies?

Nintendo announced today that it’s planning to make more movies based on its popular games. Speaking to investors (as reported by IGN), Nintendo explained they’re working on a system to regularly release films, though they didn’t share details about specific new projects just yet.

Nintendo’s first movie, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, was a big hit in 2023. They’ve already announced a follow-up, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which is scheduled to come out on April 3, 2026. Plus, they’re also making a movie based on The Legend of Zelda, planned for release sometime in 2027.

Nintendo stated they are still getting ready to release more movies down the line.

Nintendo has announced a follow-up to 2023’s hit, The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The sequel, currently titled The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, will once again be directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, with a script by Matthew Fogel. The original film’s voice cast – including Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, and Keegan-Michael Key as Toad – are all expected to reprise their roles.

As you might expect from the title, Super Mario Galaxy takes Mario on an interstellar adventure! He’s on a mission to rescue Princess Peach and, this time, the entire universe, from Bowser. While the upcoming movie might not tell the same story exactly, the game featured Mario hopping between planets, each with its own unique worlds, people, and landscapes.
