In the fictional world of Outlander, Caitríona Balfe may have navigated time travel, but the production of The Amateur, another intriguing spy thriller, provided her with a unique and equally captivating filming adventure as well.

Residing off the grid in Turkey, Inquiline’s home is a duplicate built on-site in Marseille, serving as a stand-in for Istanbul during filming.
Speaking with Digital Spy, Balfe commended the stunning real-world setting and elaborated on how it enriched the production of The Amateur.
She mentioned that it’s always exciting for an actor to perform at locations with a unique atmosphere. The scenes they filmed in Rami’s character’s house felt like a charming small fishing village, yet it had an isolating and remote vibe.
For quite some time, we traveled along a rough, dusty country lane, accompanied by a vehicle overflowing with guinea fowl. The place seemed like an ideal hideout, where one could vanish from sight.
Stepping into such an environment, it takes only ten minutes to grasp the possibility of living here securely, while remaining detached from society.
That entire setup offers valuable insights, and I truly look forward to our continued outdoor filming. Let’s avoid using green screens as much as possible.
Besides working with The Amateur, Balfe got the chance to collaborate with Rami Malek for the initial time. They had been acquainted socially for about ten years prior.
To strengthen their on-screen relationship, the duo took advantage of downtime between shoots to create scenes where their characters could share emotional moments as they both grieved together.
Despite not having a deep personal relationship, they have a mutual comprehension of grief that enables them to forge a connection. Balfe clarified this point.
This man is an exceptional actor, possessing both a striking vulnerability and strong on-screen presence. When you act alongside him, he seems completely immersed in the scene. It was delightful to discover small details that added depth, even though the backstory was subtly implied.
Prior to the premiere of “The Amateur”, Malek likewise shared insights with Digital Spy regarding his initial experience in film production and the unique aspects he aimed to incorporate while working behind the camera.
The Amateur is released in cinemas on April 11.
