In this freshly unveiled backstage video, Superman makes his comeback. Director James Gunn aims to resurrect the legendary superhero on the big screen, setting the stage for an entirely new cinematic realm with his reimagined version of Superman. The role will be played by a relatively unrecognized actor who will don the red and blue suit and soar through the skies to uphold truth, justice, and a brighter future. You can watch the new clip below.
This summer, Warner Bros. Pictures will release “Superman,” the debut feature film from DC Studios, across global cinemas. The movie, helmed by the director behind the “Guardians of the Galaxy” series, offers a fresh perspective on the original superhero. With a unique mix of intense action, humor, and emotional depth, this Superman is motivated by compassion and a deep faith in humanity’s inherent goodness.
In this upcoming comic book adaptation, David Corenswet portrays both Superman and Clark Kent, with Rachel Brosnahan cast as Lois Lane. Notably, Nicholas Hoult takes on the role of Lex Luthor. The star-studded cast also includes Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, María Gabriela de Faría, Wendell Pierce, Alan Tudyk, Pruitt Taylor Vince, and Neva Howell. Known for their roles in various popular series such as ‘Twisters’, ‘Hollywood’, ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’, ‘For All Mankind’, ‘Barry’, ‘Gotham’, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, ‘The Suicide Squad’, ‘Alien Romulus’, ‘Licorice Pizza’, ‘Booksmart’, ‘At Midnight’, ‘The Moodys’, ‘Selma’, ‘Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan’, ‘Andor’, ‘Bird Box’, and ‘Greedy People’, these talented actors bring their unique charisma to the screen.
The DCU Needs ‘Superman’ To Succeed
The success of Superman seems to hang in the balance. Will it please both fans of the character and general cinema-goers? At this point, it’s uncertain due to mixed reactions from test screenings that have left fans uncertain about Superman’s return. While some insiders claim that the film is ‘terrible’, others assert that it’s ‘tremendously good’. For instance, Jeff Sneider received a call from a source who said the movie was wrongly reported as good, while John Campea believes it to be excellent.
According to Deadline, Warner Bros Pictures’ co-chairman/CEO Mike De Luca highly commended James Gunn’s vision by describing it as “an outstanding cinematic experience.
I adore Superman. James Gunn has truly outdone himself with this film. It’s packed with his signature warmth, wit, and the action is breathtakingly spectacular. It feels like the Superman I knew from my childhood, so watching it brings tears to my eyes. I find it incredibly grand, visually stunning, and deeply emotional.
On the big screen, Superman kicks off the DC Universe, but the small screen has already launched the new franchise with the HBO Max animated series Creature Commandos, offering a rebooted glimpse of the DC world. Similar to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, DC Studios’ co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran have numerous projects in development, such as Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, a Clayface movie, The Brave and the Bold, Swamp Thing, a Teen Titans spin-off, and more. Superman is slated for a theater release on July 11, 2025, as the inaugural film in the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters series.
