Exclusive: A mother shares an emotional moment with her gladiator son in Those About To Die
As a hardcore history and gaming enthusiast with a soft spot for epic tales set in ancient civilizations, I can hardly contain my excitement as I eagerly anticipate the release of “Those About To Die” on Peacock tomorrow. The prospect of immersing myself in the rich historical fabric of ancient Rome, with Roland Emmerich at the helm, is a tantalizing proposition that has me hooked.
Starting tomorrow, Peacock will release the entire 10-episode run of “Those About To Die,” a captivating new historical series set in ancient Rome. Renowned director Roland Emmerich, known for blockbuster films such as “Independence Day,” is at the helm of several episodes and also producing this epic production. The trailer promises an unforgettable viewing experience.
In “Those About to Die,” we’ll be introduced to the ruling imperial family, influential patricians, the criminal element of ancient Rome, and brave gladiators who fought in the arenas for public amusement. It is said that these gladiators used to salute the emperor with the phrase “those about to die greet you” before their battles. This production is dedicated to them.
As a gamer, I can tell you firsthand that the show boasts an impressive roster of actors, including Anthony Hopkins, who masterfully portrays Emperor Vespasian. For Game of Thrones aficionados, keep an eye out for Iwan Rheon, reprising his menacing role as Tenax, the charioteer with ambitious plans to capitalize on the games.
Sara Martins plays the role of Cala, a Numidian merchant, in Peacock’s production. Her son Kwame, portrayed by Moe Hashim, is forcibly taken to be trained as a gladiator. We are fortunate to have an exclusive sneak peek from Peacock of these two characters. In this particular scene, just before Kwame goes into the arena to battle, Cala reassures them both that he will make it through and reunite with his loved ones once more.
Based on this scene, we can expect some emotionally moving moments in the upcoming episode. I truly hope that they cross paths once more.
To discover if that’s the case, watch all ten episodes of “Those About to Die” when it becomes available on Peacock on July 18. With “Gladiator 2” set for release on November 22, it seems we may be entering a new era of impressive Roman epics. I, for one, am looking forward to it.
