“Excellent” British drama with 100% Rotten Tomatoes score is now streaming on the BBC

The highly-rated British drama Lollipop, which received perfect scores on Rotten Tomatoes, is now available to stream in the UK. The film was celebrated for its strong story and excellent acting, and was one of the most talked-about British movies of 2025.

I just saw this really interesting new film, and it’s the first feature from a writer-director named Daisy-May Hudson. It centers around Molly Brown, played by Posy Sterling, who’s just getting out of prison after being inside for four months. It’s a compelling start to the movie, really setting the stage for her story.

She tries to get her children back after they were in foster care, but quickly realizes how difficult it is to navigate the social services system and rebuild her life.

The drama is now streaming on BBC iPlayer in the UK, with TerriAnn Cousins and Idil Ahmed appearing in supporting roles. It will be available for a long time – around 11 months, in fact – so you won’t have to rush to watch it.

When it was released, Lollipop received very positive reviews. Currently, 100% of critics on Rotten Tomatoes recommend the film, based on 17 reviews. Critics especially praised the acting by Sterling and the script written by Hudson.

According to a review in The Observer, a particularly moving scene in Daisy-May Hudson’s first feature film is among the most powerful seen in cinemas this year.

Empire Magazine praised the film as powerfully emotional and unforgettable, highlighting standout performances from the entire cast and a story that will linger in your mind. The Times described it as fiercely honest and uncompromising.

I was reading a review in Time Out, and they absolutely loved it! They said it’s so captivating you don’t even notice something really unique: every single adult character, from the referees to the shop owners, is played by a woman. It’s a really cool concept and it totally works!

According to Sight & Sound, Posy Sterling delivers a complex and moving performance as a mother recently released from prison who is fighting to regain custody of her children. Her nuanced portrayal, filled with both heartbreaking sadness and moments of release, is the driving force of Daisy-May Hudson’s film.

BBC iPlayer also features a variety of films, including the comedy-drama The Duke starring Anna Maxwell Martin, the classic dance film The Red Shoes from the 1940s, and the comedy-horror film The Blackening.

Lollipop is streaming now on BBC iPlayer.
