Ex-MasterChef Star Spills Secrets: Find Out What Happens to All That Food on Set!
The enigma surrounding one of MasterChef Australia‘s key aspects has at last been unveiled, as a previous competitor has disclosed where the remnants of the program’s excess food end up.
Juan De La Cruz, a competitor from the 2024 season, shared insights about the production team’s strategies for reducing food waste backstage in the show.
Based on what Juan said, the production process takes a step ahead in reducing food waste through the application of diverse food conservation methods.
‘Lots of food is donated and also the staff behind the cameras takes some,’ he told Chattr.
He added at the end of each week, many excess food items were freely given to the cast and crew.
Juan mentioned that sometimes, by the close of the week, items like vegetables, fruits, and even some meats in the pantry become available or ready to be used.
‘So we would take ingredients to practice ideas during the weekend,’ he continued.
Juan explained that every competitor in the kitchen challenge had a fresh bottle of oil for a reasonable reason during their competition.
Starting a fresh package ensures an equal beginning for all, considering factors like moisture in the flour or potential cross-contamination from other ingredients which might spoil dishes, explained him.
‘Ultimately the judges will eat this food and they want to prevent any type of contamination.’
Last year, a board game creator aged 40 became the seventh competitor to leave during the extended run of the popular cooking competition.
On the following Wednesday evening, viewers shared a poignant moment as celebrity chef Shannon Bennett came back to MasterChef Australia, marking his much-anticipated return.
The chef from Melbourne, aged 49, made an appearance on the well-known cooking show on Channel Ten for the first time since 2023, assisting competitors in preparing a smooth puree made from peas.
Shannon explained, “I’ll just do a bit of cooking here. Let me demonstrate a few techniques for this recipe.

Shannon’s exceptional cooking abilities left the competitors amazed, prompting Callum Hann to exclaim: “It’s a delight to witness Shannon in the kitchen! Each time I observe such masterful chefs, I always pick up something new.
Emotional fans took to social media to share their excitement at seeing Shannon in the kitchen.
Seeing him return to the studio left me quite emotional. To me, he’s a true hero who deserved a spot among the new judges last year.
‘With all his talents and compassion, it’s hoped that he might someday serve as a judge, should that be his aspiration.’
‘You learn from the legend,’ a second person added.
Previously, Shannon’s former partner Madeline West gave birth to her seventh child, who isn’t fathered by him for the first time.
