Ex-EMKA Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R “RSR Specification” Heads to Auction

A unique automobile steeped in both Porsche and Pink Floyd lore is set to be sold at auction. RM Sotheby’s will soon present a 2000 Porsche 911 GT3 R, initially owned by EMKA Racing, the racing team established by Pink Floyd’s manager Steve O’Rourke. This car is one of just 66 models produced by Porsche Motorsport for the 2000 season, and it was first raced at the 24 Hours of Daytona with five-time Le Mans winner Derek Bell, alongside O’Rourke, Tim Sugden, and Stephen Day.

The Porsche GT3 R competed in significant endurance races like Le Mans, Spa, and the Nürburgring 1000 Km during its tenure, as well as clinching FIA GT class victories at Enna-Pergusa and Anderstorp in 2003. Following the death of O’Rourke, the vehicle was passed through various owners, one of them being Tim Sugden’s GruppeM Racing team. In 2005, they modified the car to “RSR Specification,” which featured wider bodywork and a six-speed sequential gearbox upgrade.

After a collision at the Silverstone 1000 Km race in 2005, the vehicle underwent a reshelling process. Subsequently, it passed through several renowned hill climb drivers before undergoing two significant engine overhauls – the most recent one being a €54,000 ($61,582 USD) rebuild by RS Tuning, run by former RUF engineer Reingold Schmirler. At present, it is painted matte black with BBS wheels and has not been driven since its restoration in 2015.

The legendary Porsche GT3 R goes up for sale on April 23, during RM Sotheby’s Shift Online: Europe and Middle East auction. This prized item could potentially sell for up to $550,000 USD.
