Ex-EastEnders star Jack Ryder reveals he is a secret nepo baby and his dad is a famous rocker

Former EastEnders star Jack Ryder has revealed his secret nepo baby roots.

The 44-year-old actor was known for his role as Jamie Mitchell on the soap opera, which he played from 1998 until his character was famously killed off on Christmas Day in 2002.

It turns out Jack’s father was a well-known singer who had a successful career, selling millions of records and charting six songs in the US Top 40.

Jeremy Allan Ryder, who performs as Jack Hues, is the lead singer of the 80s new wave band Wang Chung. They’re most famous for their 1986 song, ‘Everybody Have Fun Tonight’.

Although the band – featuring members Nick Feldman and Darren Costin – was from Britain, they achieved their greatest popularity in the United States.

You know, I’ve been doing a lot of work with people exploring their family histories lately, and it’s amazing what comes up! I was chatting with a client, Jack, the other day, and he shared that his father was a really well-known pop star in the US back in the 80s. They’ve had many conversations about what that was like, growing up with a famous dad, and it’s something they’ve really bonded over.

He told The Sun that they shared a similar perspective. He explained that the other person never liked being famous, often finding it bewildering, and he admitted to feeling the same way.

Jack discussed his challenges with becoming famous due to his role on the BBC soap, explaining that he never felt comfortable being seen as a ‘heartthrob.’ He admitted he struggled to understand the attention and found the intense public reaction overwhelming.

Wang Chung is also known for songs like “Let’s Go!” and “Dance Hall Days,” and they even created music for the popular 1985 movie The Breakfast Club.

The band opened for The Cars on a US tour before disbanding in 1990.

In 1997, the band simplified to a duo featuring Jeremy as the vocalist and Nick on guitar, and they still perform together now.

I’ve been following Jack’s career since his EastEnders days, and I’m so impressed with everything he’s done! It’s amazing how he’s transitioned into theatre direction, and I was really excited to hear about his children’s books. His latest, ‘Voyage to Mermaid Mountain,’ just came out in July 2024 – it’s a bit moody, but really captivating, honestly!

Jack has spoken about how difficult it was to become famous so young, looking back on his career.

The actor, appearing on ITV’s Lorraine, shared that nothing could have prepared him for the experience, and he simply focused on moving forward.

Honestly, nothing could have prepared me for it. It was a really special time for television – before everything changed with social media, a true golden age, in my opinion.

Our most recent episode reached around 25 million viewers, which was amazing. I really enjoyed the work itself, but dealing with the sudden fame when I was younger was difficult. I just focused on doing my job and pushing through.

Fans of the British soap operas EastEnders and Emmerdale were surprised last week when a familiar character returned to the screen, but with a new actor playing the role.

It’s surprisingly common for actors who later became famous on one soap opera to have had smaller parts on another, but this often isn’t well known.

EastEnders is bringing back Mark Fowler Jr., the son of Grant Mitchell and Michelle Fowler, to the show.

Stephen Aaron-Sipple is now in charge, and Mark will be spending time with his family, including his sister Vicki, played by Alice Haig.

For Mark’s previous stay Walford in 2016, actor Ned Porteous played the character for 13 episodes.

Ned, 31, is now well known for his role as conniving businessman Joe Tate on Emmerdale.

He initially starred in the ITV soap from 2017 to 2018, before returning in Christmas 2024.
