Ewan McGregor’s Daughters’ British Accents Before Moving to America
Her father’s Scottish brogue is part of his trademark appeal.
Moving to Los Angeles back when his career flourished was the reason behind his daughters acquiring a unique American accent over time.
Currently, Clara, McGregor’s daughter, has posted a family video that she claims encapsulates the moment when she and her siblings still retained a ‘British accent’.
When the video was recorded, these girls had already resided in London for quite some time; it was a city they had called home ever since they were little children.
The delightful video features a youthful Miss McGregor instructing her pajama-wearing siblings on ballet routines as her sister Esther enthusiastically remarks, “Absolutely, I’m paying attention!
In turn, the girls bid their father goodnight, each using an accent reminiscent of England, quite different from their present California-influenced tones.
Posting it for her 130k followers, the model-producer humorously mentioned that the video is a keepsake from ‘the past times’ – a period before her family moved to Los Angeles when she was a teenage girl.
Initially, the girls hailed from London, however, their father’s captivating Scottish allure led to increased interest worldwide, which eventually caused a shift in their own accents. As a result of McGregor’s busy filming commitments, the family was frequently relocated around the world.

For a period of three years, the sisters resided in Australia as their father was busy filming Star Wars and Moulin Rouge movies. Later on, they established permanent residence in the United States in the year 2008.
Currently, Miss McGregor resides in New York City. She pursued her studies in photography there and is now working on establishing herself as an actress.
Though the 28-year-old takes pride in her personal growth, her father had previously been subjected to critique due to perceived abandonment of his English heritage.
He said, “It seems like you’re moving away from something. Folks in Scotland often remind me to keep in mind my origins, as I shared with Radio Times.
He stated, ‘I don’t require anyone to prompt me. It’s that sensation of being insufficiently Scottish. Regardless of where I am globally, I am Scottish.’
To renew ties with his homeland, the actor traveled back to Scotland in 2023, joined by his spouse, Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
They bought a £2 million house in the countryside of Perthshire last year, which they have been meticulously renovating with care over the past twelve months.

At a Comic Con event in Edinburgh the previous year, the actor who played Trainspotting shared that he relocated because he found it challenging to let go of the nostalgic recollections of his cherished native land.
He expressed: “I long for the scenery. I yearn for the atmosphere in Scotland. I pine for the scent of rain, the aroma of greenery, and the hues of Scotland.
‘And the people and the culture. I could just keep going on and on.’
