Ewan McGregor says there are ‘another few’ Obi-Wan Kenobi stories to tell
As a die-hard Star Wars fan with memories of Obi-Wan Kenobi etched deep into my Jedi-loving heart, I can’t help but share my excitement about the potential for more adventures with Ewan McGregor reprising his iconic role. The Obi-Wan Kenobi series on Disney+ was a masterful return to the Star Wars universe, and it left us all yearning for more stories from our favorite Jedi Master.
For those Star Wars enthusiasts among you who have been eagerly anticipating a potential second season of the Disney+ series ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’, you’re not alone in your excitement. The man behind the Jedi Master, Ewan McGregor, shares the same desire to explore more tales about Anakin Skywalker’s former mentor.
In a recent conversation with Variety, McGregor expressed his desire for additional tales set within the Star Wars universe, focusing particularly on Obi-Wan Kenobi’s storyline. He’s especially interested in the time period between the end of Kenobi’s series and the beginning of A New Hope.
From the point where our series concluded until Alec Guinnes’ appearance alongside Luke Skywalker, I believe there are still a few more tales waiting to be shared,” he suggested.
In the specified timeframe, we’ve seen one instance of Obi-Wan Kenobi – in the “Twin Suns” episode of Star Wars Rebels, where he had a fateful encounter with Maul. However, as more time passes, it seems less likely to fans that Obi-Wan actually spent his entire time on Tatooine keeping watch over Luke Skywalker. It’s hard to believe there weren’t other significant events in his life. (I personally support the idea of officially recognizing John Jackson Miller’s 2013 Kenobi novel, but that’s just my opinion.)
The final episode of the Disney+ series concludes with Qui-Gon Jinn, for the first time, manifesting as a Force Spirit to Kenobi. This encounter paves the way for various directions a potential second season might take. Initially marketed as a six-episode limited series, it’s not ruled out that a sequel or film could materialize in the future. In fact, it was originally intended to be a movie; plans can evolve over time.
McGregor has had a fondness for portraying Obi-Wan Kenobi, and he’d likely be thrilled to step back into that role again, perhaps even multiple times. However, given the current uncertainty surrounding Star Wars television, it’s hard to predict what the next five or ten years might hold for the franchise.
