Ewan McGregor gives families a Christmas to remember as he makes surprise appearance at a youth charity party in his native Scotland

Ewan McGregor unexpectedly showed up at the G20 Youth Project’s yearly Christmas celebration in his hometown of Scotland on Sunday.

The 54-year-old actor, originally from Perth, seemed cheerful as he chatted with families at the Maryhill event, which featured holiday music and a traditional turkey dinner.

Ewan started by wearing a beanie with the charity’s logo, then playfully switched to a Grinch headpiece for photos with surprised guests.

Other celebrities, such as actors Dougary Scott and Ray Winstone, and Jonathan Watson from Two Doors Down, also sent video messages with Christmas greetings for the guests.

The charity shared photos from a fantastic event on Instagram, thanking Guy Fieri for cooking a delicious meal and gathering support for their work. They called it a ‘belter of an evening’ with their community.

G20 Youth supports the Maryhill community by giving young people opportunities to experience nature and adventure.

Last month, Ewan McGregor shared his Scottish BAFTA award with his wife, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, publicly honoring her at the glamorous ceremony in Glasgow.

The 54-year-old actor received a special award from Bafta Scotland and attended the ceremony with his wife, whom he’s been married to for three years. The event took place at the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel.

I was absolutely thrilled to see Ewan looking so handsome in his kilt and sporran! It was such a sweet moment when he shared a really passionate kiss with Mary Elizabeth – they clearly have amazing chemistry. Then, up on stage, he gave the most lovely tribute to her, especially mentioning how much he’s enjoyed working with her over the years. He even joked about hoping they’d get to make even more films together, and honestly, I’m right there with him – I’d love to see that happen!

The couple first connected in 2016 while working on the FX show Fargo. They played a couple on screen during the third season, which is where they initially met.

When they filmed the project, he was married to Eve Mavrakis, while she was married to Riley Stearns. However, both of those marriages later ended, and the two actors started a relationship shortly after.

The team reunited for the 2020 superhero movie Birds of Prey, which is inspired by the DC Comics team of the same name.

I was so thrilled when they finally announced the arrival of their son, Laurie, in June 2021! They’d been together for almost four years, and everyone was waiting for this happy news. It was wonderful to see their family grow!

Mary says she’s incredibly happy living in the Scottish countryside with her husband, Ewan. She describes their life as ‘heavenly’ since they finished renovating an 18th-century mansion in Perthshire, near where Ewan grew up in Crieff.

Records show that Ewan purchased a large country house in Perthshire with ten bedrooms and a billiards room for £2.35 million in May 2023.

Mary, Ewan McGregor’s wife, recently shared what it’s like living in Scotland with him and their four-year-old son, Laurie. She’s currently filming the second season of Ahsoka while there.

I truly enjoy my work and I’m thankful for it, but I had a wonderfully peaceful and uncomplicated weekend last week. It was so perfect, it felt like my idea of paradise.

Honestly, there’s nothing better to me than simply being at home, cooking a meal, and enjoying the simple things. Things like picking apples, being outdoors, and just connecting with nature… it truly feels like perfection. It’s my happy place, really.
