Evo 2024: All the announcements, reveals, and trailers

As a long-time fighting game enthusiast and avid follower of the Evo tournament scene, I couldn’t contain my excitement as I watched this year’s event unfold from the comfort of my living room. The energy was palpable, with over 10,000 unique competitors battling it out in games like Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, Guilty Gear Strive, and Mortal Kombat 1. But Evo isn’t just about the competition – it’s also a major news event for fighting game fans!

At Las Vegas this weekend, Evo 2024 gathers the top fighting game champions for a three-day competition. This year’s Evo is larger than ever before, hosting over 10,000 distinctive contenders who will clash in titles such as “Street Fighter 6,” “Tekken 8,” “Guilty Gear Strive,” and “Mortal Kombat 1.”

At Evo, not just a prominent fighting game competition, but also a significant news hub, key publishers and developers such as SNK, Warner Bros., and Arc System Works have unveiled fresh game launches, introduced new characters, and disclosed upcoming release dates.

Here’s everything announced at Evo 2024 (so far).

Samurai Jack and Beetlejuice head to MultiVersus

In the second season of MultiVersus, starting July 23, a new fighter named Samurai Jack joins the roster. Around late August or early September, when the movie “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” hits theaters, another character, Beetlejuice, will be added as well. This information aligns with earlier leaked data. Samurai Jack belongs to the Bruiser class and wields his mystical katana along with swift agility, as demonstrated in his reveal trailer, which also previews his Righteous Warrior Jack variant.

On July 23, besides introducing Samurai Jack and ranked mode, Warner Bros. Water Tower is also set to join MultiVersus as a new stage.

The King of Fighters 15 adding Mature and Vice

At Evo 2024, SNK’s team revealed that veteran fighters Vice and Mature from The King of Fighters series will join The King of Fighters 15 in December. They will maintain their iconic appearances and can be selected as individual characters rather than a combined entity.

In “The King of Fighters ’94,” Mature first appeared. Then, in “The King of Fighters ’95,” Vice joined the scene. They are set to make their joint entrance towards the end of 2024.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves adds Kevin Rian to roster

SWAT team member Kevin Rian is set to participate in the upcoming “Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves” tournament. Previously introduced in “Garou: Mark of the Wolves,” Kevin will once again employ powerful, explosive moves to outmatch his adversaries. A vivid example is shown as Kevin prepares to unleash an explosive bullet to enhance a punch aimed at Terry Bogard’s face.

Nine characters have been confirmed for the “Fatal Fury: City of Wolves” roster in “Fatal Fury”: Rock Howard, Terry Bogard, B. Janet, Marco Rodrigues, Preecha, Hotaru Futaba, Vox Reaper, and Tizoc, in addition to Kevin. This fighting game from SNK is set for release in early 2025 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.

SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos released on modern platforms

SNK and Capcom’s 2003 crossover fighting game that brought together characters from Street Fighter, Fatal Fury, Darkstalkers, Samurai Shodown, Metal Slug, Mega Man, and more is now on modern platforms. SNK shadow-dropped SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos on Steam on Saturday, and plans to release the game on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Windows PC via GOG on July 22.

In the latest version of SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos, players can enjoy rollback netcode and tournament settings. The rest of the gameplay experience is intended to remain similar to the original arcade version.

Uzuki for Under Night In-Birth 2 Sys:Celes

At Evo, it was announced that The Black Monger, also known as Uzuki, will join “Under Night In-Birth 2 Sys:Celes” starting July 25, which is next week. This character is the first of three newcomers included in the game’s Uni2 season pass. Following Uzuki, players can expect Ogre in February 2025 and Izumi in August 2025.

Hunter × Hunter: Nen × Impact

In 2024, Eighting’s latest 3vs3 fighting game based on Hunter x Hunter, which is also collaborated with Capcom on titles like Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, and DNF Duel, will be released for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Windows PC. At Evo, Arc System Works, the game’s publisher, revealed the final list of characters for Hunter × Hunter: Nen × Impact. Meruem was displayed in a gameplay demonstration, while Kite, Morel, and Razor were confirmed through the release of the game’s opening movie.

As a gamer, I’ve been excitedly waiting for the latest reveals in “Hunter x Hunter: Nen × Impact.” So far, we’ve been treated to some familiar faces from the original series. I’ve personally encountered Feitan, Chrollo, Uvogin, Machi, Biscuit, Gon, Killua, Leorio, Kurapika, Hisoka, and Netero in this new game. These characters have brought back great memories of their unique abilities and stories from the Hunter x Hunter universe.
