For 15 years, Tyra Banks was the host of America’s Next Top Model.
Despite claiming to promote a broader view of beauty and disrupt traditional industry norms, the popular show frequently perpetuated unhealthy dieting trends, negative body image, and damaging imbalances of power.
The supermodel now acknowledges she pushed things too far, recalling instances of problematic makeovers, embarrassing public weigh-ins, dangerous work environments, and exploitative photoshoots.
After the show wrapped up in 2018, a lot has changed for Tyra.
Now in her early fifties, she’s launched an ice cream company, authored books, and openly discussed the issues from the past in the Netflix documentary Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model.
Tyra Banks has often discussed her evolving relationship with food. Here, the Daily Mail shares a glimpse of her typical daily diet.
I’ll never forget when Tyra shared how she used to struggle with her body image. She explained that she often felt disconnected from her own body, constantly feeling either too skinny or too heavy. What really struck me was when she said she felt like she was letting people down if she did lose weight – it showed just how much pressure she was under and how complicated it all was for her.
Instead of dieting or tracking calories, she prioritizes feeling good and healthy.
In a 2020 interview with Harper’s BAZAAR, she revealed she currently weighs 25 pounds more than she did when she appeared on the cover of a popular swimsuit magazine last year.
Tyra enjoys matcha for breakfast, though she typically begins her day with coffee, and likes to add a little flavoring to it.
In a video with Harper’s BAZAAR, she clarified she wasn’t referring to flavored syrups or powders, but rather coffee beans that have been infused with vanilla or caramel.
She doesn’t add any milk, sugar, or cream, as she likes her coffee black.
Tyra enjoys bagels for breakfast, and she usually chooses a plain one when she knows she’ll be interacting with people.
If she’s got no plans, an onion bagel it is.
Okay, so she cuts the bagel, right? But then—and this is the BEST part—she hollows it out! Like, scoops out all the fluffy inside, leaving just the perfect, golden-brown bagel shell. It’s honestly mesmerizing to watch. It’s the foundation for greatness, you know?
For the topping, she takes a ‘big scoop’ of cream cheese and fills it up like a ‘moat’.
She heats up the cream cheese filling in the microwave, making it warm and perfectly smooth.
Finding time for lunch is tough for the multi-business mogul, supermodel, TV host.
Honestly, watching her schedule, lunch is rarely a relaxed sit-down meal. She’s juggling so many things – businesses, modeling, hosting TV shows – that finding the time to just sit and eat is a real challenge, and I totally get it!
However, Tyra’s solution to this is a snack box.
Inside, you’ll discover a wide variety of snacks, including natural licorice, bean chips, corn chips, and even cauliflower puffs.
She shared on Instagram that she absolutely loves cashews, describing them as rich and delicious.
But when she does have a minute spare, Tyra loves eating at a local diner.
‘Diners are a girl’s best friend,’ she wrote on Instagram in 2018.
One of her go-to quick and enjoyable lunches is trying burgers from different fast food places and comparing them.
Tyra loves to have elaborate dinners with her son and boyfriend, often involving taste tests of the same dish from multiple restaurants.
In a Harper’s BAZAAR video, she said she likes to make dinner something a little extra and really enjoyable.
We compare restaurants based on a specific dish, rating them to see who makes it best. This helps you choose the perfect place to order from next time.
Often on her trail list are hamburgers and Mexican food.
Oh my gosh, when she does decide to cook, it’s pure magic! She makes this incredible thing she calls ‘sriracha maple bacon jerky candied yum’ – seriously, it’s the most amazing combination of sweet, spicy, and savory you could ever imagine. I’m obsessed!
In the video, she explained that she uses cured, heavily smoked bacon. She also makes a side sauce with maple syrup, but specifically uses the artificial kind, not the real Canadian maple syrup.
I also add some sriracha, mixing it into a delicious sauce. Then I dip the bacon in the sauce and spread it out, finishing with a generous grind of pepper.
I put it in the oven and carefully monitor it to prevent burning. As it cooks, it begins to develop a crystallized, caramel-like texture.
‘Then when it comes out of the oven, it’s almost like candy. It is so good.’
For dessert, it may come as no surprise that she loves her own ice cream brand. SMiZE & DREAM.
She shared on Instagram when the brand launched that ice cream is one of her favorite things.
I’ve always dreamed of starting my own ice cream company and sharing delicious, unique flavors with everyone.
Even though the ice cream is amazing, I also wanted to create something special just for you! Get ready for SMiZE Cream – it’s coming this fall!
