‘Everyone’s Pretty Envious’: The Fantastic Four Cast Is Pretty Happy Their Suits Aren’t Too Restrictive … In All The Right Places

For comic book enthusiasts like you, it’s hard not to appreciate the vibrancy with which costumes are portrayed on screen these days. Filmmakers have taken great care to stay true to the original designs and make them visually stunning… yet, a point can be made that they don’t exactly seem comfortable. While I respect the creators, these outfits often look snug, restrictive, and even claustrophobic (especially those with masks), and it’s easy to empathize with the actors who have to perform within such limitations. However, the costumes worn by the stars of Fantastic Four: First Steps buck this trend, as they manage to be both visually impressive and comfortable-looking.

In the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe film, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, and Joseph Quinn wear retrofuturistic outfits in shades of blue and white. These costumes appear incredibly comfortable, with Ebon Moss-Bachrach not getting to join them since The Thing is created through performance capture. During a recent Los Angeles press day for the movie, TopMob’s Jeff McCobb asked about the costumes, likening them to pajamas. Pascal agreed that this was an accurate description of their appearance, but he also noted that there are definitely worse choices the production could have made regarding their outfits.

While they resembled pajamas, I didn’t mind at all. To say they felt like pajamas might be an exaggeration, but there was no denying they were incredibly comfortable – much more so than one might expect.

Pedro Pascal, known for donning thick Mandalorian costumes in the Star Wars universe, now sports a much more subtle look in Fantastic Four: First Steps. Instead of the heavy armor and helmet, his character’s headwear is merely delicate silver wingtips on his temples. Unlike the chest plate that appeared bulky, his attire initially appears as if he’s wearing a sweater.

Joseph Quinn, starring as the swift Human Torch, offered some positive remarks regarding his superhero outfit, highlighting its flexibility that he appreciates. He mentioned that unlike traditional suits featuring armor or capes, this one doesn’t hinder his movements, allowing him to fully express his physical abilities.

You could move in them, you know, they weren’t too restrictive of your… of whatever you need.

In the movie “Fantastic Four: First Steps”, the main characters reside in a separate universe from the typical Marvel Cinematic Universe, meaning they don’t have chances to discuss costume designs with other superheroes within the film. However, their opportunity for a crossover is on the horizon and it won’t be long before it happens. While Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach have been jetting around the globe over the past weeks promoting the blockbuster focused on Marvel’s First Family, they’ve also been occupied in recent months as part of the large cast in “Avengers: Doomsday”.

How are the other stars of the MCU responding to the comfy look of the Fantastic Four? Per Pascal,

This light blue that is so revealing? Yeah, yeah. Everybody’s pretty envious.

Currently, audiences worldwide are witnessing a captivating light blue spectacle unfold, as the movie “Fantastic Four: First Steps” is being screened in cinemas nationwide and has triumphantly outshone its competitors at the weekend box office during its premiere. In the following days, keep an eye on TopMob for additional tales from our exclusive cast and director Matt Shakman interviews, as well as insightful analyses exploring the film’s impact within the current superhero movie landscape.
