As a dedicated gamer and long-time Marvel fan, I couldn’t be more thrilled about the possibility of Wong getting his own Disney Plus series! The MCU has consistently surprised us with its ability to breathe new life into underappreciated characters, and Wong is no exception.

One captivating element that sets these shows apart is their knack for shining a deserved limelight on characters who previously played supporting roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. Case in point: Wanda and Vision in “WandaVision,” Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes in “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” and Clint Barton in “Hawkeye.”
The trend from Phases Four and Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) persists, with Sam Wilson set to star in “Captain America: Brave New World,” while Bucky Barnes joins a number of underappreciated MCU characters in “Thunderbolts.”
As a dedicated gamer and avid Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) fan, I can’t help but feel elated by the latest rumors circling around. It seems another cherished hero, one of our favorite characters from the MCU, might be granted the opportunity to star in his very own project. Frankly, if these reports are indeed accurate, it’s long overdue.
Wong rumored to be getting his own MCU Disney Plus series
Based on information from Marvel insider MyTimeToShineHello, Marvel Studios is working on a solo project featuring the character Wong. The specific format of this project – whether it’s a movie or a TV series – hasn’t been confirmed yet. However, given previous rumors about a “Strange Academy” Disney+ series, many fans believe that this could be the project in question.
A film or television show centered around the character Wong could be an intriguing and unique project due to his complex and enigmatic nature. In the context of a Strange Academy series, this would provide him with an opportunity to head a new team of sorcerers, potentially paving the way for their involvement in a significant conflict against a formidable adversary, such as Dormammu. The power of the sorcerers was evident when they joined forces with The Avengers during their battle against Thanos.
In an intriguing twist for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Strange Academy, the comic book series revolving around a mystical school founded by Doctor Stephen Strange to nurture young sorcerers, could be brought to life with Wong taking on the role of the headmaster. Given that Wong has assumed the mantle of Sorcerer Supreme following Doctor Strange’s self-proclaimed title in the comics and movies, it seems plausible for him to oversee the academy in this adaptation.
Wong, played by Benedict Wong, has gained significant popularity among fans since his introduction in 2016. His dry wit, unintentional humor, and constant exasperation with Doctor Strange have resonated with audiences. Initially a faithful sorcerer and ally to The Ancient One, he later became her successor, Doctor Strange’s teacher. Eventually, due to a technicality resulting from Doctor Strange being absent for five years due to the Blip, Wong assumed the role of Sorcerer Supreme.
In his initial introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he featured prominently in “Doctor Strange.” Following this debut, he returned to portray the same character in “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame.” Since then, he has continued to be a significant figure in the Multiverse Saga, gracing the screens of “Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings,” “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law,” and lending his voice to various incarnations of the character in the animated series “What If…?”
Similar to Strange, Wong may not view himself as an official Avenger due to the magical nature of the sorcerers often operating beyond human laws. Nevertheless, his role is pivotal within the team, collaborating consistently with them to restore order following their joint missions, such as defeating Thanos. With the significant impact Wong had on Phase Four, it’s hardly unexpected that whispers of him leading a solo project are circulating. It’s truly astonishing that an official announcement hasn’t been made yet considering the immense fan adoration for this character.
It’s crucial to remember that Marvel rumors should usually be met with a healthy dose of skepticism, particularly during times like San Diego Comic-Con. However, the persistent whispers about a “Wong Academy” have been circulating for some time now. Considering how intriguing and exciting this concept is, it wouldn’t shock us if these rumors eventually proved to be valid.
