I enjoy watching this series primarily because it features Black characters, but I continue to watch out of curiosity to see the outlandish storylines that develop. The acting can sometimes resemble a soap opera, which leads me to believe that the direction may not be very strong or consistent, and the dialogue often leaves much to be desired. In fact, it’s quite poor. It seems as though the actors are improvising frequently, resulting in a lot of “ummhmms” and “yups” in various scenes. I believe these talented actors deserve more compelling material for their performances.

Beauty in Black–5.7/10

Under the title “Tyler Perry’s Beauty in Black,” this Netflix original series made its debut on October 24, 2024, marking Tyler Perry’s first foray into Netflix productions. The lead character, Kimmie, is portrayed by Taylor Polidore Williams, with Crystle Stewart playing Mallory alongside her. I don’t usually write reviews, but this show was exceptionally poor. Without a doubt, it ranks among the worst shows I’ve ever watched. The scenes are excessively long, seeming to be an attempt to stretch out jokes until they become tiresome and lose viewer engagement rapidly. The storylines lack depth, giving the impression that they were penned by someone with ADHD. The dialogue is hard to follow, making it uncomfortable to watch, except for Cora, Mr. Brown, and Vinny’s performances. Their acting stands out in a sea of mediocrity.

In my opinion, Tyler Perry’s “The Haves and the Have Nots: A Divorce Story” remains one of his most debated works, undoubtedly. I found myself deeply moved by this narrative, particularly as it unfolds through the lives of characters portrayed by Meagan Good (Ava) and Cory Hardrict (Dallas).

As a banking professional, Ava finds herself ensnared in an abusive relationship. Despite her best efforts to maintain it, she is ultimately abandoned by her spouse. However, when she decides against reconciling, the situation takes a dramatic turn, leaving her with the arduous task of reclaiming her liberty.

Despite the captivating narrative and powerful message of “Divorce in the Black,” it failed to satisfy many viewers. While some found the plot consistent and skillfully constructed, others have begun questioning whether Tyler Perry’s films are losing their quality.
