Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, the duo behind Key & Peele, are known for their hilarious viral sketches, but their “East/West College Bowl” remains one of their most memorable. The sketch playfully blended sports and comedy, featuring fictional football players announcing their increasingly ridiculous names during a mock pre-game show. The idea originated from a conversation between Key and Peele about Peele’s fondness for the Madden video game, where he first encountered unique player names like D’Brickashaw Ferguson – a name that eventually made its way into the sketch.
The initial comedy sketch led to two more, all following a similar style and featuring characters who would reappear in later football-related skits. Their popularity even allowed the comedians to include actual football players in their last sketch. Across the three skits, they referenced a whopping 95 names, all of which are listed below.
The First Sketch Introduces Hingle McCringleberry

Comedy Central
The first “East/West College Bowl” sketch appeared in Season 2, Episode 1 of the show in 2012, an episode called “Dubstep.” The sketch opens with sportscasters Geoff Worthing (played by Bill Seward) and Dave Sassin (played by Joel Meyers) announcing a football game between two teams of 16 players each – the East and the West. They begin by introducing themselves and their alma maters. Key and Peele carefully crafted the introductions with layered details – in the readings, the player banners, and the background visuals – encouraging viewers to rewatch and discover something new each time.
| East Team Player | West Team Player |
|---|---|
| D’Marcus Williums | Saggitariutt Jefferspin |
| T.J. Juckson | D’Glester Hardunkichud |
| T’Variusness King | Swirvithan L’Goodling-Splatt |
| Tyroil Smoochie-Wallace | Quatro Quatro |
| D’Squarius Green, Jr. | Ozamataz Buckshank |
| Ibrahim Moizoos | Beezer Twelve Washingbeard |
| Jackmerius Tacktheritrix | Shakiraquan T.G.I.F. Carter |
| D’Isiah T. Billings-Clyde | X-Wing @Aliciousness |
| D’Jasper Probincrux III | Sequester Grundelplith M.D. |
| Leoz Maxwell Jilliumz | Scoish Velociraptor Maloish |
| Javaris Jamar Javarison-Lamar | T.J. A.J. R.J. Backslashinfourth V |
| Davoin Shower-Handel | EEEEE EEEEEEEEE |
| Hingle McCringleberry | Donkey Teeth |
| L’Carpetron Dookmarriot | Torque (Construction Noise) Lewith |
| J’Dinkalage Morgoone | ⨗ (The Player Formerly Known as Mousecop) |
| Xmus Jaxon Flaxon-Waxon | Dan Smith |
It’s hard to capture the humor of these names just by reading them. Keegan-Michael Key is fantastic at performing the vocalizations – his dolphin impression for “EEEEE EEEEEEEEE” is particularly good. The players also announce where they went to college, and while most are typical, “Torque (Construction Noise) Lewith” jokingly claims he’s from Nevada State Penitentiary. Dan Smith is unique as the only white player and the only one not portrayed by Key or Peele, and the blandness of his name is amplified by the fact that he attended Brigham Young University.
The sketch features the first appearance of Hingle McCringleberry, a character who returns in Season 3, Episode 8. In the sketch, Hingle plays professional football for the Rhinos. His signature move after scoring a touchdown is a dance ending with three forceful thrusts of his hips – he calls them his “three pumps.” He’s so enthusiastic that he even receives penalties for celebrating too much, but can’t help himself.
The sketch was well-received, leading to a return appearance the following season in Season 3, Episode 2, called “East/West College Bowl Rap.” It begins with Leoz dreaming that his East team performs an old-school rap, with each player contributing a couple of lines to introduce themselves. The West team then sees a recording of Leoz’s dream and responds with their own, more modern and elaborate rap introduction. The highlight of the sketch is a rapid-fire verse delivered by Dan Smith.
Sketch 2 References the “A. A. Ron” Substitute Teacher Sketch

Comedy Central
The sketch about the “East/West College Bowl” was a hit, so it came back in Season 3, Episode 12. Geoff Worthing and Dave Sassin reappeared to introduce the players, and the sketch quickly launched into the familiar, funny style of Key and Peele.
| East Team Player | West Team Player |
|---|---|
| Coznesster Smiff | Equine Ducklings |
| Elipses Corter | Dahistorius Lamystorius |
| Nyquillus Dillwad | Ewokoniad Sigourneth Juniorstein |

| Bisquiteen Trisket | ⬥︎♓︎■︎♑︎ ♎︎♓︎■︎♑︎⬧︎ (“Wingdings”) |
| Fartrell Cluggins | Firstname Lastname |
| Blyrone Blashinton | God |
| Cartoons Plural | Squeeeeeeeeeeps |
| Jammie Jammie-Jammie | Benedict Cumberbatch |
| Fudge | A. A. Ron Balakay |
The second ‘East/West College Bowl’ sketch features some jokes that are arguably even funnier than the first. The character named ‘Fudge’ stands out because he’s the only player introduced without a college affiliation. There’s a running gag with the players’ colleges: Harvard supposedly went to DeVry, ‘Morse Code’ introduces himself using actual Morse code, and ‘Wingdings’ attended ‘online classes’ with his name displayed in the Wingdings font. Another player, ‘Firstname Lastname,’ went to ‘College University’ and appears with a blurred face. Jammie Jammie-Jammie is surprisingly revealed to be a Heisman Trophy winner. Finally, A. A. Ron Balakay (played by an actor other than Key or Peele) is a nod to their popular sketch about a teacher struggling with pronunciations.
Sketch 3 Features Real Football Players

Comedy Central
Just two days before Super Bowl XLIX in 2015, Key and Peele released a special featuring a series of funny sketches about football. This included a third installment of their popular “East/West College Bowl” sketch, but this time it focused on professional players. What made this sketch unique was the surprise appearance of some actual NFL players. It began similarly to previous versions, with new hosts, and included a humorous moment where a host described the players as the “crème de la crème” – which also happened to be the name of the first player being introduced.
| East Team Player | West Team Player |
|---|---|
| Creme De La Creme | Prince Amukamara (Real) |
| Cosgrove Shumway | J.R. Junior Juniors Jr. |
| Ha Ha Clinton-Dix (Real) | Faux Doadles |
| Doink Ahanahue | Fozzy Whittaker (Real) |
| Legume Duprix | Myriad Profiteroles |
| Leger Douzable (Real) | Busters Brownce |
| Quisperny G’Dunzoid Sr. | Turdine Cupcake |
| Grunky Peep | Rerutweeds Myth |
| D’Brickashaw Ferguson (Real) | Ishmaa’ily Kitchen (Real) |
| Strunk Flugget | Takittothu’ Limit |

| Vagonius Thicket-Suede | Splendiferous Finch |
| Marmadune Shazbot | Triple Parakeet-Shoes |
| Swordless Mimetown | Logjammer D’Baggagecling |
| A. A. Ron Rodgers (Aaron Rodgers) |
“East/West College Bowl 3” follows a similar format to previous sketches, but this time features actual NFL players alongside Key and Peele’s characters. Players like Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, Leger Douzable, D’Brickashaw Ferguson, and Aaron Rodgers were all established professionals when the sketch came out – with Rodgers’ name altered as a running gag from earlier sketches like “East/West College Bowl 2” and “Substitute Teacher.” By including recognizable faces, Key and Peele show that their humor is rooted in the reality of how football players are often introduced.
