Every major Star Trek announcement from San Diego Comic-Con

As a seasoned gamer and lifelong Trekkie, I must say that this year’s San Diego Comic-Con left me with mixed feelings. On one hand, I was overjoyed to hear about the final season of Star Trek: Lower Decks and the upcoming IDW comic focusing on the USS Cerritos crew. The trailer for the fifth season seemed promising, and I can’t wait to preorder the comic when it becomes available!

As a long-time fan of both Marvel and Star Trek, I must admit that this year’s San Diego Comic-Con left me with mixed feelings. On one hand, it was thrilling to see Robert Downey Jr.’s return as Dr. Doom in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). However, the news of his casting leaves me feeling a bit uneasy and skeptical.

They had a substantial presence during an approximately 90-minute event, which included a series of panelists from the Star Trek universe rotating in and out. This event showcased numerous significant items, some of which were revealed, hinted at, or officially announced. Due to the volume of information shared, it might be challenging to find all the announcements if you’re only browsing social media or a specific website.

In this location, our goal is to assist you. We’re gathering and organizing all significant updates into a single, convenient place for your perusal.

New Show in Development

Starfleet Academy.

It’s evident that her tenure on the show has sparked discussions about her involvement in developing a new one. However, creating a comedy series within the realm of Star Trek is no easy feat due to its emphasis on moral lessons rather than conventional humor.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds first look at season three and the return of an old character

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, despite not yet prepared for its third season, made an appearance at San Diego Comic-Con, offering a comical sneak peek into the upcoming season. Characters such as Captain Christopher Pike, Nyota Uhura, Christine Chapel, La’an Noonien Singh, and even Spock embarked on a covert operation, which led to an alteration in their DNA during the mission.

In this story, characters who aren’t Vulcans have their genetic makeup altered temporarily, causing them to look and behave like Vulcans. This is used for humor since Spock, who is only half-Vulcan, starts acting in an “illogical” manner compared to his crewmates, who are now almost flawless in everything they do. The rest of the crew takes great pleasure in teasing Spock about this change, leading to some amusing situations.

In a swift turn of events, they accomplish their task before time and hurry back to the spaceship prior to the expected return date. However, they fail to revert to their original human personas. This leaves the crew stranded as irritating Vulcans, a predicament that adds an amusing twist to their daily lives. The scene is both whimsical and entertaining, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of Star Trek’s unique charm.

Plus, Anson Mount’s hair is even better as a Vulcan.

Additionally, it was revealed during the gathering that Dr. Roger Korby, who was the main adversary in the seventh episode of the inaugural season, will make a comeback to the series.

Lower Decks debuts first trailer and new comic

Get ready, Star Trek: Lower Decks fans! The last chapter of this fantastic series is approaching on October 24, 2024. This grand finale will surely leave a lasting impression as it brings the show to an end. The debut trailer for the final season premiered at SDCC and stirred emotions within the dedicated fanbase. The opening sequence was a heartfelt look back at past escapades, featuring flashbacks and memorable moments from previous missions.

The trailer moved forward, revealing snippets of what we might encounter in season five, featuring different realities starring the team from the Cerritos ship.

As a dedicated gamer diving into the galaxy of my favorite space-faring crew, I’ve got some exciting news! Although October marks the beginning of the end for our current season, fear not, fellow fans – there are fresh tales in store for us! Alongside the release of the fifth teaser trailer, we’ve been given a tantalizing glimpse into a new series of stories centered around the crew of the Cerritos.

Fans can start preordering the comic, and they’ll have until Oct. 7 before preorders end.

Section 31 debuts trailer to extremely negative reaction

One of the more controversial concepts that Paramount has cooked up in some time remains as such. Star Trek: Section 31 has debuted its new trailer and fans aren’t loving it. There is a fraction of the fanbase that seems to enjoy the mood and atmosphere, but it comes off as wholly un-Star Trek. Something not lost on many people.

In simpler terms, people online seem to be critical of this movie trailer for not accurately portraying Section 31 and instead attempting to create a sarcastic action-comedy that doesn’t work. The large number of dislikes compared to likes on YouTube suggests it may not meet the expectations of Star Trek fans. Specifically, the trailer has received 3,100 likes but 32,000 dislikes according to the Return YouTube Dislike app.

As someone who grew up as a devoted Star Trek fan, I have to say that this new trailer has left me feeling disappointed and confused. Throughout my years of watching and loving the series, I had always looked forward to seeing the values of Starfleet embodied in the characters and storylines. However, the latest trailer for the upcoming show seems to depict Section 31 as a group of authoritative, oppressive figures who represent everything that is wrong with Starfleet. This portrayal goes against my personal experiences and expectations of what Star Trek stands for. I’ve seen positive change and exploration of complex moral issues in previous iterations of the franchise, but this new trailer seems to lack the same energy as Discovery. I have read many comments and posts from other fans who share similar feelings, expressing their displeasure with the direction that the new show is taking. It’s unfortunate to see such a beloved series being represented in this way, and I hope that the creators take our feedback into account as they continue to develop the storyline.

Fans were never truly on board with this film.

The Doctor is in, and the best of the rest

In a continuation of his Star Trek journey, Robert Picardo is making another appearance, this time in live-action for Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. Notably, he’ll reprise his role as The Doctor, a character he also played in Prodigy’s second season and on Voyager. Given the Doctor’s extensive history across various timelines, it’s reasonable to assume this incarnation has witnessed a myriad of events over numerous years. Yet, there is a chance that the doctor may be a variant of the original character creation.

As a gamer, I can’t wait to see myself not going solo in the upcoming season! The hilarious Tig Notaro is set to be a permanent cast member alongside Picard, while Oded Fehr and Mary Wiseman will make a comeback, gracing our screens for a special guest appearance. It’s going to be an epic ride!

In a potential excitement for fans of both series, Doctor Who and Star Trek have collaborated on a mobile game crossover. Yet, it’s important to note that such a collaboration between these two established science fiction brands might not come to fruition due to the legal complexities involved.

Lastly, Star Trek: Prodigy season two is coming to Blu-Ray in November.
