Every Andor Season 2 Episode Ranked from Best to Worst

Waiting was definitely worth it, as Season 2 not only wrapped up the Andor series, but did so as what many consider to be the finest offering within the Star Wars universe. This season significantly heightened realism and tackled mature themes that had never before been explored in the realm of Star Wars media.

Season 2 of Andor seemed incredibly authentic, reflecting aspects such as espionage, domestic violence, and fascist elements. It gradually unfolds at a measured pace, setting the stage for an intense accumulation of suspense and emotional turmoil in the ensuing episodes.

The festive evening episode from season 2 was particularly intense, so it’s logical that a follow-up episode would have a more laid-back atmosphere. The ‘Messenger’ episode fast forwards a year and seems to be set at one of the original rebel bases. It appears there’s disagreement among them about whether they should remain and develop with a structured rebellion force or carry on operating covertly under Luthen.

We observe that Dedra’s plan is progressing by her control over the Ghorman people, which leaves Syril feeling like a chess piece in this game. There’s much speculation about where their bond will lead as tensions rise. Will they choose to uphold their obligations and professional commitments above their personal relationship?

The storyline involving Mothma and her associates continues to unfold, yet remains somewhat lackluster, failing to deliver any particularly captivating scenes so far. As for now, the majority of the action revolves around Cassian’s kidnapping. During his captivity, he observes the inefficiency of his captors and even offers them suggestions on managing the opposing group.

The other team didn’t know how to operate the TIE fighter and instead attempted to pull it towards Cassian’s captors to make them shoot their cannon. The rebels chose a contest to decide who would get the pilot and the ship. Surprisingly, their confrontation wasn’t physical combat as one might expect, but more like a fancy version of rock-paper-scissors. Cassian managing to escape from this group of incompetents was the best part of the episode.

Just like the initial season of Andor, the second season begins with a more subdued pace. Viewers weren’t entirely clear about Cassian Andor’s current scheme, but it became apparent that he found himself in deep trouble after being captured by rebels who strayed from their path. However, the opening of Season 2 is immediately intriguing and establishes a platform for numerous characters and occurrences.

In the thrilling premiere of Andor, I, as a Star Wars enthusiast, find myself firmly in the presence of Krennic – a character I previously encountered as the formidable antagonist in Star Wars: Rogue One. Cassian Andor’s debut movie is where our paths first crossed. This episode reaches its peak when Andor, in an audacious move, hijacks a TIE fighter, only to discover his piloting skills are less than stellar. The cinematography is nothing short of captivating, brilliantly portraying my clumsy attempts at flying while I wreak havoc among countless stormtroopers.

In this scenario, when he completely overpowers Dedra during an intense interrogation, the atmosphere becomes oppressive as she is dismantled for her mistakes and accused of being a secret spy. The interrogation room seems to hold the crucial information about the Death Star – the most precious asset in the galaxy.

In “Who Else Knows?”, K-2SO’s character is well-established, much like his charm in Star Wars: Rogue One. He chooses to venture into the closed district and starts taking out stormtroopers. The one thing that makes this episode a bit aggravating is Kleya’s reluctance to go to Yavin IV, when it’s clear she has no other options available.

As a movie critic, I found the grand nuptials of Mon Mothma’s daughter in the world of Andor eerily mirroring the impending chaos that threatens our universe. After an intricate dance of diplomacy and socializing, Mon Mothma’s tranquility is shattered by whispers of treachery and violence. In response, she turns to drink and revelry at a wedding that, while refined, bears a striking resemblance to a subdued rave.

As the festivities at the wedding reach a peak, tensions with the rebels on Mina-Rau also intensify. In a groundbreaking move for “Star Wars”, there’s a pivotal scene where Bix successfully defends against an assault. This betrayal by the rebels is then used against them by the Empire, and Cass swoops in with his TIE fighter to destroy the stormtroopers. The wedding chaos mirrors the escalating rebellion.

In every moment he’s present, the Saw character maintains control. He transforms Wilmon into an ally through a harrowing ordeal, making Wilmon breathe in harmful fumes. This twist was quite startling, as it was evident that Wilmon had been eager to depart before this incident. Prior to his alliance with Saw, Wilmon was merely a pawn, but understanding his motivations made him all the more captivating.

The episode emphasizes the significant growth Cassian has undergone from his time as a rebel, particularly evident in his interactions with the Ghormans, who seem remarkably naive by comparison. When Cassian hints at the Empire’s skill in spreading misinformation – a skill on full display thanks to Dedra and Syril’s plan – it’s like witnessing a tragic event unfold gradually.

Initially, Syril appeared as a character carrying over from season one, primarily used for comic relief. However, the episode titled “Ever Been to Ghorman?” significantly altered this perception and positioned him as a significant figure in the storyline of Andor. In a clever twist, Syril demonstrates empathy towards the people of Ghorman, which gains him access to their clandestine gatherings. This form of spycraft showcases the diverse narratives that Andor can explore.

Luthen and Gerrera become increasingly recognized as the more covert faction within the rebellion. Luthen, in particular, takes on a more ominous demeanor, giving off an eerie vibe similar to Darth Vader when he encounters another spy. On the other hand, Dedra’s plot serves as the most intriguing element of Andor, and this is the episode where it begins to pick up speed and become more captivating.

Throughout this episode, Luthen and Kleya find themselves in exposed positions more often than usual. This is an unusual occurrence, given their roles. The intense apprehension Jung feels about being discovered as a spy underscores the immense risk involved in retrieving the bug. Meanwhile, viewers get to witness a discussion on morality and politics between Krennic and Mothma, as they debate past war atrocities and their consequences.

As a film critic, let me share my thoughts on this latest episode: It was packed with non-stop action, but what truly left an indelible impression was the climactic scene. The Ghormans finally crossed a line into violence, and it turned out to be Gorst who found himself in his own trap, orchestrated by Bix! Incredibly, Cassian was seen helping her with this masterful act – one of the most shocking twists in the entire series.

In my review of this episode, I must say that the action was relentless but it was the jaw-dropping finale that left a lasting impact. The Ghormans took their aggression to new levels, resulting in Gorst being ensnared by his own torment device – all thanks to Bix’s clever plotting! To my surprise, Cassian was spotted lending a hand in this daring move, creating one of the most gripping moments throughout the series.

In most significant characters, particularly those connected to the ISB, there’s a conclusive resolution. Dedra’s character development reaches completion, solidifying her as one of the more impactful characters in the Star Wars universe. Initially a follower of an oppressive regime, seeing her end up in prison, much like Cassian in season one, is particularly poignant. Additionally, Partagaz, a formidable antagonist, meets his end in a way that reflects his character.

Despite a significant portion of the episode foreshadowing events from Rogue One, it remains action-packed. The tactical team storming Luthen’s hideout is heavily defeated by K-2SO. This ending in Star Wars stands out for its thorough resolution, addressing the fates of many characters, even minor ones.

Kleya’s influence expanded significantly during season 2, demonstrating her strategic intelligence and abilities that extended beyond being merely a servant of Luthen. However, the plot takes a dramatic turn when details about the Death Star are exposed, necessitating the destruction of Luthen’s base on Coruscant. In this critical moment, Luthen confronts Dedra, showing his unwavering determination by attempting suicide.

During the entire episode, we see flashbacks detailing Luthen and Kleya’s encounter and their subsequent struggle against the Empire. Their bond was marked by an unusual blend of skepticism and sincerity, yet it held a genuine ring to it. Kleya, in her attempts to resurrect Luthen, finds herself confronting her own father, a moment that further solidifies her tough persona.
