Event Horizon Is Headed to Paramount+

The popular sci-fi horror series will soon be available on a different streaming service, just before its long-awaited sequel premieres next year. It remains incredibly popular even after nearly thirty years.

The popular sci-fi horror movie Event Horizon, directed by Paul W. S. Anderson and Philip Eisner, will soon be available on Paramount+. It’s expected to start streaming on January 1st.

Directed by Anderson and written by Eisner, the film Event Horizon features Sam Neill as Dr. William Weir, the creator of a spaceship that disappeared on its initial voyage. When the ship unexpectedly reappears, Weir joins the crew of the Lewis and Clark to investigate, uncovering terrifying secrets along the way.

The film follows Captain S.J. Miller of the Lewis and Clark, who leads a mission to investigate the abandoned spaceship Event Horizon and uncover what fate befell its crew. The cast includes Joely Richardson, Sean Pertwee, Jason Isaacs, Kathleen Quinlan, and several others, most of whom tragically succumb to the terrifying forces unleashed by the Event Horizon.

When Event Horizon first came out, critics disliked it and it didn’t make much money at the box office – earning only $42 million on a $60 million budget. However, over time, the film has gained a dedicated fanbase and become surprisingly popular. Even though it still has low ratings – 36% from critics and 62% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes – its cult following has led to its success.

As a huge fan, I’ve seen so many tries to recapture the magic with spin-offs and sequels, but nothing really clicked… until recently. This new release has been a total phenomenon – it’s already been reprinted multiple times, which just proves how popular it is!

What’s Next for the Event Horizon Franchise?

IDW Publishing will release a new comic book series in 2026 that continues the story of the film Event Horizon. The series takes place 200 years after the movie and follows a group investigating the mystery surrounding the ship, while also dealing with a wealthy and ruthless billionaire who wants to control its power.

Christian Ward, who is returning to write the Event Horizon comic series, was surprised by the success of Dark Descent. He’s excited to continue the story in Event Horizon: Inferno, explaining that they first explored the events leading up to the film, and now they’re delving into what happened after the movie ended.

Event Horizon will be available for streaming on Paramount+ beginning Jan. 1.
