Even Jesse Eisenberg doesn’t know why he’s donating a kidney to a total stranger

Actor Jesse Eisenberg recently revealed he’s donating a kidney to someone he doesn’t know. He shared the news on the Today show on October 30th, and said the surgery is scheduled for mid-December. Eisenberg is currently starring in the upcoming film Now You See Me: Now You Don’t.

You won’t believe this, but I just found out Jesse Eisenberg is donating a kidney! He said he’s doing it in about six weeks and he’s genuinely excited. When asked why, he said he doesn’t really have a specific reason, he just got really into donating blood and decided to do this as a completely selfless act in mid-December. It’s amazing!

The NHS explains that someone can donate a kidney to a stranger as an act of selfless giving. This is known as non-directed altruistic kidney donation. Because most people have two kidneys but only need one to live a healthy life, donating is often possible.

In a separate conversation with Today.com, Eisenberg explained that the opportunity is practically without risk and incredibly valuable. He believes people will quickly see it’s an obvious choice if they have the time and are interested.

Imagine someone in Kansas City needs a kidney, and unfortunately, their family member or intended donor isn’t a compatible match. But, somehow, I am, which is quite a situation, as he pointed out.

They could still receive one of my kidneys, and ideally, their child would donate a kidney as well. However, this relies on a kidney exchange program where a matching recipient is found, and it only works if someone donates out of pure generosity.

On October 30th, Kevin Longino, CEO of the National Kidney Foundation and a kidney transplant recipient himself, publicly praised Eisenberg for his generosity. Longino stated that the NKF deeply appreciates and admires Eisenberg’s willingness to donate a life-saving organ.

Kidney donation is a life-changing gift for people with kidney disease, and it can encourage others to consider donating too. Currently, over 90,000 Americans need a kidney transplant, and sadly, 13 people die each day while waiting for one. Living donors can significantly reduce this wait time, leading to better health and a higher quality of life for those who receive a transplant.
