Evanna Lynch Returns to Social Media After Controversial Stance on J.K. Rowling’s Views

Actress Evanna Lynch, well-known for her role in Harry Potter, captivated fans once more as she reappeared on social media platforms by debuting a fresh blog on a Friday, marking a return after an absence of two years. This gap occurred following her vocal defense of J.K. Rowling’s stance on transgender issues.

33-year-old actress, known for her role as Luna Lovegood in the Wizarding movie series, encountered criticism when she publicly supported the book’s author, which put her at odds with some of the film’s other prominent stars such as Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint.

Stepping cautiously back onto the public stage, Evanna disclosed that she had been engrossed in writing a book and eagerly looked forward to renewing her connections with her fans following a period of self-imposed isolation.

In her message, she explained her absence this way: “Essentially, I took a lengthy break from my usual self. I was simply tired of being who I’ve been… The previous year drained me of energy to maintain that facade, and the year 2024 marked a significant change in my energy level.

I turned down almost every invitation, job offer, campaign, and so on (except for a few freelance gigs to make ends meet), I stopped responding to messages, I changed my hair color to black (such a stereotype, it’s killing me), and I took an extended, delightful break from myself.

Apart from acting roles, she too revealed some personal updates about her life. Specifically, she mentioned her new boyfriend, Den, who owns a business. She wrote: “Currently residing in London with my partner, Den, and our pets, I’d add. By the way, Den is a gardener, and I am currently immersed in writing.

Previously, Evanna was in a hidden nine-year relationship with Robbie Jarvis, who portrayed the young version of Harry Potter’s father, James Potter, in the movies. They parted ways in 2016, and later, in 2017, she had a short fling with singer-songwriter AnDel.

She wrote: ‘After being comfortable for a few years, I’m now challenging myself to step out of my cozy routine, as I risk becoming too accustomed to life away from technology.’

Over time, I’ve allowed my online identity to fade like spiderwebs in the wind. But lately, I’ve been yearning to engage with the world beyond my comfort zone. Consequently, I’m opening up a bit more, inviting a larger piece of the outside world into my life.

The Irish actress, previously open about her struggle with anorexia and backed by J.K. Rowling, has since remained silent following her comments on the ongoing debate concerning Rowling’s views on gender identity, often criticized as transphobic.

In an interview with The Telegraph in February 2023, Evanna expressed her opinion that J.K. Rowling is rightfully boosting the voices of individuals known as “de-transitioners,” who are people who regret transitioning and wish to undo their gender change.

In a conversation with TopMob in 2023, she acknowledged that she had been unaware of the strong reaction her support for J.K. Rowling would provoke online and reflected, ‘That incident served as quite a jarring reminder for me.’

Initially, the writer delved into the subject of the transgender debate back in 2020 by expressing criticism towards a particular article that employed the term ‘those who have periods.’ Subsequently, she penned a heartfelt essay articulating her views on sex and gender, standing firm behind her stance.

I refuse to contribute to the continued exclusion of trans women and men.

I believe it’s inappropriate to delve into such a sensitive subject matter via Twitter with brief, scattered ideas. Frankly, I wish Jo wouldn’t do this. However, let me clarify that as her friend and admirer, I can never forget the kindness and warmth she consistently shows.

Two weeks ago, it seemed like J.K. Rowling might have been targeting actors Radcliffe, Watson, and Grint through a post she shared on social media, which reached her 14.3 million followers.

In a pointed reply, seemingly directed at a group of three, the 59-year-old writer offered a sharp commentary when asked about an actor or actress who quickly spoils a film for them.

In the blink of an eye, I couldn’t resist slipping in a hint: “Three attempts, I’m sorry, but it was too enticing not to.” (Lifestyle Expert)

She ended her post with three laughing emojis.

A significant number of her fans often saw her response as an acknowledgement of the trio of actors who took on the main roles in the blockbuster series.

For several years, the multi-millionaire author and some actors famously known for their roles in the Harry Potter movies have had a chilly relationship due to Rowling’s controversial opinions regarding transgender rights.

Previously, she openly declared that she couldn’t find it in her heart to forgive Radcliffe, Watson, and other famous individuals for associating with a movement aimed at undermining the rights women have fought so tirelessly to secure.

Remarks ensued post the release of the highly anticipated Cass report on gender treatment within the UK, suggesting modifications in the approach towards counseling young individuals and ceasing prescriptions for puberty blockers.

In a recent interview, Radcliffe expressed his disagreement with Rowling and stated that merely because she played a significant role in making him famous, it doesn’t mean their views have to be identical.

34-year-old actor, along with Emma Watson (also 34) and Rupert Grint (35), who starred together in Harry Potter, have openly expressed their affirmation towards the concept that those who identify as trans women (biologically male individuals who self-identify as women) are indeed women.

Yet although Radcliffe admitted ‘nothing in my life’ would likely have happened if not for Rowling.

In a chat with The Atlantic, he confessed that it’s been years since he last spoke to J.K. Rowling, and this has left him feeling troubled.

He commented: “Jo significantly influenced Harry Potter’s story, which means my life likely wouldn’t be as it is today without her. In other words, I owe a lot to that individual.

However, just because something is a deeply held belief, it does not require you to relinquish or conform to another person’s expectations throughout your lifetime.

He expressed: ‘What truly saddens me in the end is reflecting on the individual I encountered, our meetings, the stories she authored, and the universe she constructed. All these elements resonate with me so profoundly and empathetically.’

Watson has also openly hinted at the furore with Rowling.

2022 saw Rebel Wilson, the BAFTAs host, inviting Emma Watson onstage with these words: “It’s time for the next award, and I must say, although she identifies as a feminist, we all suspect she might be a practicing sorceress.

However, upon Watson’s entrance onto the stage, she declared, “I’m here for every witch!” This statement was perceived by some as a subtle jab toward Rowling.

TopMob has contacted JK Rowling’s management for comment.
