Evan Henry is back with a new song called “Spring,” and the title suits the music perfectly. While his previous work included elements of jazz and rock, this track feels like a gentle evolution of his sound, building on what he’s already established rather than starting over.
This is a great spot for Henry, considering he had a clear vision for his music even when he first started out two years ago.
I was so excited when Henry first hinted at this new song! He started teasing it on April 25th with a beautiful picture of cherry blossoms. Then, over the next couple of weeks – May 1st and 8th to be exact – he dropped little snippets of the song, which confirmed it was coming out on May 15th. The cover art reveal on May 13th just built up the hype even more – I couldn’t wait for it to finally drop!
Evan Henry keeps building from Mr. Optimist
Since then, Henry has remained consistently active, though he’s kept a low profile. He began sharing music on YouTube, starting with an acoustic version of his song “Mr. Optimist” on September 14, 2024. He followed that with covers of the Beatles’ “I’ve Just Seen a Face” in November 2024, and Finneas’ “Little Window” in February 2025.
These releases give us a better understanding of Henry’s artistic style. The acoustic version of Mr. Optimist demonstrates that his songs remain strong even with minimal instrumentation. Plus, his covers of The Beatles and Finneas reveal his diverse influences, ranging from traditional pop songwriting to more contemporary, personal styles.
A small but confident step forward
Unlike previous releases that were just on YouTube, Henry’s new song is available on all major streaming platforms. This feels like a significant step forward in his career, marking it as more than just a casual release between bigger projects.
Okay, so “Spring” is a really chill track. It’s built around a simple guitar and drum beat, with these really gentle strings layered on top. The vocals are pretty straightforward, just a nice song about enjoying nature, and it repeats the same verse style throughout. It ends with this super peaceful “I just wanna stay” hook, and then fades out with a gorgeous piano piece – they even added bird sounds, which is a really nice touch. It just feels… calming, you know?
This new song is a great step forward for the artist, building on the potential he showed in his earlier work, Mr. Optimist. It’s not a dramatic departure, but it confirms he’s continuing to develop his sound and maintain his positive trajectory. It’s a solid addition to his growing collection of songs and keeps his momentum going.
