With a background in Corpus Christi, Texas, but predominantly residing between homes in Mexico and Spain these days, I decided to invest in Necaxa because it presented an exceptional opportunity, not just as a business move, but also as a means to highlight Mexico and the country’s most ardent sport.
Whenever I get a chance to highlight Mexico or Mexicans in my work, whether it’s through production or direction, I make it a point to do so. This approach is a fundamental part of my storytelling style. That’s why I was drawn to creating this documentary series, as I felt there was a compelling narrative that needed to be shared.
During her initial trip to Aguascalientes, she found herself grappling with a sense of doubt, despite her strong drive and aspirations.
She expressed her apprehension and fear due to being both a woman and Mexican-American. She wasn’t sure of the reception she would receive, but surprisingly, she was warmly accepted. In fact, she has been amazed by the local community’s assistance.
While producing the docuseries is just as significant as any other task she’s handling, a crucial aspect of her work also includes discovering the secret recipe to restore Necaxa to the level of prominence it enjoyed in the 1990s when it claimed its three championship titles in the first division.
Her status as a renowned global celebrity granted her access to the soccer team’s locker room, a place often regarded as hallowed ground within the soccer community.

Diego González, the media relations chief at Necaxa, stated that Longoria’s arrival signified a significant moment or milestone for the club.
He mentioned that the docuseries offers an unexpected and surprising look into the relationship between Club Necaxa and Aguascalientes. It’s a chance to delve deeper than just the players, exploring the people, the city, and uncovering a myriad of emotions and feelings that truly embody soccer and its unique culture in Necaxa.
As a film enthusiast, I must admit that stepping into the spotlight wasn’t an effortless task for me, as per Gonzalez’s account. Yet, with the magnetic presence of Longoria around, it felt like the right moment to shine.
González, often referred to as ‘Sheldon’ due to his similarity with the character Sheldon Cooper from ‘The Big Bang Theory’, stated that the camaraderie within the locker rooms, training camps, and travels is deeply valued. Initially, the players had to acclimate to this close-knit environment, but the club’s professionalism and the expertise of the production team facilitated the process. This authenticity is evident in the series, making it seem incredibly genuine, as that’s exactly how it was.
He describes Longoria’s relationship with the team as close and genuine.
Upon reaching Aguascalientes, she displayed an authentic, slightly nervous demeanor without trying to dominate,” González stated. “Her genuine nature made the players feel at ease.
