Eurovision Stars Told to Stay Silent on Politics After BLM Posts Go Viral
The British band Remember, who are representing the UK in the upcoming Eurovision contest, have been advised to avoid political discussions due to their past social media posts expressing support for Black Lives Matter movement reemerging before the competition next week.
The all-female band that specializes in country pop music has been advised by both the BBC and their personal team to avoid discussing sensitive subjects such as the ongoing dispute between Israel and Hamas in the Middle East.
On Monday, the band Who Is Remembered has faced pressure from pro-Palestine activists due to their previous supportive posts on social media about BLM (Black Lives Matter). These activists are urging them to speak out against Israel’s participation in Eurovision over political concerns.
In advance of their September 2020 single release, it was announced that all earnings from this particular song would go entirely to a Black Lives Matter (BLM) charity.
In April 2021, on their platform, Remember Monday posted a critique from Black country artist Jimmie Allen, directed at the U.S. police force, following the death of George Floyd.
One reason why the band, consisting of Lauren Byrne, Holly-Anne Hull, and Charlotte Steele, aged 30, was selected for Eurovision is because they were considered as having a ‘spotless reputation’ and avoiding any sort of conflict or scandal.
A source disclosed: ‘Monday hasn’t delved deeply into political discussions… yet their backing of the Black Lives Matter (BLM) cause has prompted Palestinian activists to seek their support, hoping they will issue a statement that criticizes Israel.’
However, the band has been cautioned that any hint of political commentary before Eurovision might cause issues. Essentially, they’ve been advised to avoid discussing politics altogether.

A person with connections to the girl group, who are long-standing companions, stated: ‘The trio aims to steer clear of any political disputes. Their recent Black Lives Matter post was merely an expression of their strong dislike for racism.’
The cautionary message follows the heated controversy that erupted last year when UK participant, Olly Alexander, faced backlash for not participating in the boycott of the event in solidarity with Palestine.
He faced a tirade of abuse and threats, and was given upgraded security ahead of the contest.
Before the upcoming event in Basel, Switzerland next week, Mae Muller, the UK’s potential representative for 2023, was among 72 past contestants who signed a letter urging organizers to prohibit Israel and its broadcasting corporation from participating. Following a controversial post she made in 2023 expressing dislike for Britain, Ms. Muller encountered significant criticism.
Before the event happening next week in Basel, Switzerland, Mae Muller from the UK (who might represent us in 2023) along with 72 other previous contestants wrote a letter to organizers asking them not to let Israel and its broadcaster participate. After an old post surfaced where she expressed dislike for Britain, Mae faced criticism.
On a Monday, a group known as Monday (due to their regular practice sessions on this day at school in Farnborough, Hampshire) initially garnered attention following their performance on The Voice UK in the year 2019.
