Eugene and Dan Levy will host the 2024 Emmy Awards
As a cinephile with a penchant for all things television and a soft spot for Canadian talent, I am absolutely thrilled about Eugene and Dan Levy hosting this year’s Emmys! Four years ago, they made history as the first father-son duo to win Emmys in the same year, and now they’re breaking new ground once again.
4 years ago, Eugene and Dan Levy achieved a unique milestone by becoming the first pair of fathers and sons to win Emmy Awards in the same year. This year, they’re venturing into uncharted territory again – they will be co-hosting the Emmy Awards.
On a Friday, it was revealed that ABC and the Television Academy, who are responsible for the awards, selected the Levys as hosts for the event, making them the first father-son duo to do so. The celebration of television’s finest, set for September 15 at the Peacock Theater located at LA Live in Los Angeles, will showcase their achievements.
“Winning Emmys while quarantining in a tent made the prospect of hosting this year’s event in a real theater irresistible for Eugene and Dan Levy, as they stated. They’re delighted to celebrate this exceptional television season with everyone on September 15th.”
Craig Erwich, head of Disney Television Group, declared in a statement that the duo’s “sharp comedic instincts and unique talent for touching audiences” will ensure a remarkable Emmy Awards ceremony celebrating this year’s outstanding talents.
Cris Abrego, chair of the Television Academy, expressed excitement about having “two generations of comedy brilliance take center stage at the Emmys.”
“I cannot wait for Emmy fans to see what they have in store for all of us,” he said in a statement.
In 2020, at the peak of the COVID-19 crisis, the Levys were awarded numerous Emmys for their hit comedy “Schitt’s Creek,” which they jointly produced and acted in. This Canadian sitcom first aired on CBC in Canada and Pop TV in the U.S., but later moved to Netflix in 2017, where it saw an increase in viewership. Alongside Catherine O’Hara and Annie Murphy, the series also featured the Levys.
Following the conclusion of “Schitt’s Creek,” the cast members have kept a bustling schedule. Eugene Levy is currently hosting and serving as executive producer for “The Reluctant Traveler,” a travel documentary series on Apple TV+, which has just been renewed for a third season, and he will appear in the fourth season of Hulu’s popular show “Only Murders in the Building.” Meanwhile, Dan Levy established his own film and television production company, Not a Real Production Co., and made his directorial debut with the 2023 feature film “Good Grief,” where he also wrote and acted. Additionally, he created and hosted the cooking competition series “The Big Brunch” on Max.
