Ethan Embry’s Shocking Return to Scream After His Failed Audition with Wes Craven!

For decades, the horror genre has been flourishing, delighting fans such as myself. Some of the finest horror flicks have resurfaced with fresh sequels, like “Scream”. The last two films (currently streaming with a Paramount+ subscription) were massive hits, and the seventh installment is one of the most eagerly awaited upcoming horror movies. Actor Ethan Embry features in that slasher flick, and he recently shared his story about his unsuccessful audition for Wes Craven during the 1996 original film.

Information on Scream 7 is scarce, yet its director and original writer Kevin Williamson has assembled a powerful group of performers. Embry is among several fresh faces joining the franchise, but recently discussed his past with Scream in an interview with Bloody Disgusting. Kicking off, he…

I’m thrilled to share that being invited to Scream 7 was simply amazing! It’s an extraordinary community, growing from its inception to its current form, and I’ve yearned to join this franchise since day one.

Back in the day, I vividly remember the immense impact of the original “Scream.” Its unique blend of meta humor and gruesome violence revolutionized the slasher genre, leaving an indelible mark on countless subsequent films. As Ethan Embry himself put it, ever since those early days on set, he’s harbored a desire to have his own encounter with Ghostface – talk about playing the long game!

Stream the new Scream movies on Paramount+! Choose between the Essential plan at $7.99/month or the ad-free Premium plan, which includes twice as much content from Showtime, for just $12.99/month. Or, take advantage of a special offer – 12 months for the price of 10 with the annual plan! Check it out now!

Embry, much like other recognizable stars, is slated to feature in the upcoming sequel. Joel McHale, known for roles such as in ‘Can’t Hardly Wait’, has secured a part in ‘Scream 7’, portraying Sidney’s husband. In an interview, he also shared his past audition experience for the late filmmaker Wes Craven regarding the role. In his own words:

In the past, I tried out for the first Scream movie. However, I’m not certain whether it was Jamie Kennedy or Matthew Lillard who also auditioned – it was either one of them. What I do recall is not receiving positive responses from Mr. Craven during that time.

It’s fascinating how timeless the original “Scream” cast turned out to be, making it difficult to visualize anyone else in those roles. I’m curious now about which character Ethan Embry was trying out for and specifically what kind of feedback Mr. Kraven provided during his audition process. Oh, wouldn’t it be intriguing to have been a spectator!

To me, Embry appears to be a better fit for the character Randy than Billy Loomis. He possesses an appealing charisma that could have suited the role previously performed by Jamie Kennedy in the initial trilogy. Ironically, Kennedy himself was initially turned down for the part. It seems as though the role of Randy was particularly challenging to cast.

The enigmatic character Ethan Embry will play in “Scream 7” won’t be unveiled until the thrilling slasher sequel hits cinemas on February 27th, 2026. Unfortunately, it’s not scheduled for release in 2025, so fans may have to wait a bit longer for further details.
