Eternal Champions, SEGA's Cult 1993 Fighting Game, is Getting a Live-Action Movie Adaptation

As a seasoned gamer who’s witnessed the rise and fall of countless gaming icons, I must admit, the news about Skydance developing a movie adaptation of Eternal Champions has piqued my curiosity. Back in ’93, when SEGA Mega Drive was still king, I remember playing this somewhat obscure fighting game with its intriguing time-travel twist. To see it come to life on the silver screen is truly fascinating!

Skydance Media is currently working on creating a live-action film based on the less well-known 1993 SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis combat game, Eternal Champions. Derek Connolly, who has previously written for the Jurassic World series, has been recruited to write the script for this movie adaptation.

As a gamer, I’ve found myself immersed in the thrilling world of Eternal Champions where combatants hailing from various eras of history clash. From the primitive caveman Slash to the advanced cyber kickboxer RAX and the time-traveling bounty hunter Jonathan Blade, these warriors are all vying for a common goal: being Earth’s ultimate savior. The grand prize for the victor? A second chance at life – a resurrection, so they can fulfill their destiny that was tragically cut short before accomplishing their respective missions.

As a gamer, I’m thrilled to share that Toru Nakahara, the Sonic the Hedgehog movie producer from SEGA, is on board with us! The dynamic trio of David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger are producing this epic adventure for Skydance. Rob Ree, who brought SEGA and Skydance together, is serving as executive producer, and Aimee Rivera will be overseeing the entire project. This is going to be one heck of a ride!

In this game, Eternal Champions, there are nine playable characters: Shadow Yamamoto, a Japanese assassin; Jetta Maxx, a Russian acrobat; Larcen Tyler, a cat burglar from the 1920s; Midknight, a vampire scientist; Xavier, a warlock from the 17th century; and Trident, who resides in Atlantis as an underwater creature. It’ll definitely be intriguing to witness them on the big screen.
