Esports World Cup 2025 Club Championship: Full breakdown and key takeaways

In simple terms, Team Falcons dominated the Esports World Cup Club Championship 2025 for a second consecutive year by excelling in various games. Here, we’ll discuss their edge over competitors like Team Liquid and Vitality, the impact of financial support, and which unexpected teams made an impressive showing.

The Team Falcons won the Esports World Cup Club Championship 2025 in Riyadh for the second year in a row. Although some view this tournament as a prestige event, it’s increasingly becoming a significant measure of an esports team’s influence and power, whether they welcome that or not.

As a gaming enthusiast, let me walk you through the highlights of last summer’s grand esports spectacle – the Club Championship. We’ll dive into the most significant trends that emerged, the top-notch performances that left us in awe, and some key insights drawn from this flagship event.

But before we delve deeper, let me quickly explain how the Club Championship’s scoring system works, as it plays a crucial role in determining the champions.

Club Championship Point system explained

In order to earn points during the Esports World Cup tournament, a team needs to secure a position among the top eight teams. Each first-place finish in any game discipline would have been rewarded with a total of 1,000 Points.

To claim the Club Championship title, it’s necessary that the organization has secured a victory in at least one tournament. Additionally, to become eligible for rankings and the prize pool, they must have finished among the top eight in no less than two Esports World Cup events.

If a team, such as Team Falcons, has two members in the top eight of a chess tournament, like Alireza Firouzja finishing second and Hikaru Nakamura finishing third, then only the points earned by the player with the higher ranking are considered for scoring purposes.

In these games – Warzone, PUBG Mobile, PUBG PC, Free Fire, Apex Legends, and Rennsport, finishes in 6th to 8th position earned fewer points (150 for first, 100 for second, and 50 for third).

How Falcons won the Club Championship

At the EWC 2025, Team Falcons’ main strength wasn’t winning a single title outright, but rather their impressive consistency across multiple events. They participated in an impressive 22 out of the 25 tournaments. The only exceptions were VALORANT, League of Legends, and Honor of Kings, which they did not participate in. No other organization entered as many events as Team Falcons.

At the Esports World Cup 2025, Team Falcons managed to finish among the top eight in 13 out of 22 tournaments. However, they only won the championship for Overwatch 2. Nevertheless, their consistent performance was impressive, with eight top-four finishes earning them 4,800 out of their total 5,200 points.

Beyond playing Overwatch 2, Team Falcons secured the second position in Dota 2 and Chess. Notably, in Chess, they earned both the second and third places, but only the second-place finish contributed to their EWC Club Championship standings.

In a highly competitive tournament, the recently formed CS:2 squad by Team Falcons, boasting players like NIKo and m0NESY (who joined the team in April 2025), finished third. Additionally, Team Falcons also secured third place in Rocket League and PUBG: PC events. Notably, their most impressive performances were witnessed in Chess, CS:2, and Dota 2 tournaments, demonstrating a strong competitive edge across various genres.

Team Liquid take back-to-back silver medals

Once again last year, Team Liquid ended up as runners-up for the second consecutive time. But in 2025, their Club Championship Points saw a substantial increase compared to the previous year. This team managed to clinch three Esports World Cup titles, which accounted for 3,000 of their total 4,200 points. These triumphs were achieved in Chess, EA:FC, and MLBB. Magnus Carlsen, a renowned Chess Grandmaster, represented Team Liquid in the Chess tournament. However, inconsistency in other competitions hindered them from claiming the top prize.

In Starcraft 2, Team Liquid managed a 3rd place finish – their best result – but struggled to make an impact in other gaming disciplines compared to Team Falcons. Across the 13 games they participated in, they failed to place within the top eight in six of them. This clearly indicates that the Club Championship’s format favors consistency over winning a single big event.

Team Vitality consistency earns them 3rd place

At a recent tournament, Team Vitality placed third, moving up from their fourth-place finish in 2024. Much like Team Falcons, this French esports team has only triumphed once at the Esports World Cup – not in Counter-Strike 2, surprisingly, but instead, they won the MLBB Women’s Invitational (MWI) 2025, edging out Gaimin Gladiators.

FC tournament, and their entirely Indonesian Free Fire team came in third. Simultaneously, teams placed fourth in Tekken 8, Rocket League, and Counter-Strike 2 earned an additional 900 Club Championship Points elsewhere.

Remarkably, Team Vitality’s third place in the EWC Club Championship 2025 is noteworthy given they participated in just 11 out of the 25 competitions. Yet, they managed to secure a top-8 position in nine of these events. This suggests that while the Falcons played twice as many games as Vitality, the French team was barely 1,150 points behind them in the overall standings.

This shows that despite participating in fewer events, Team Vitality still managed to perform exceptionally well and hold their own against teams playing a much larger number of matches.

2025’s Esports World Cup served as a stepping stone for numerous regional organizations to thrive, with well-known teams like Natus Vincere (ranked 32nd), FaZe Clan (jointly ranked 103rd), Team BDS (also jointly ranked 103rd), and T1 (ranked 12th) failing to secure a spot in the top 10.

In the years 2024 and 2025, only four esports teams – Team Falcons, Team Vitality, Team Liquid, and Gen.G – managed to secure a top-10 spot in the annual Club Championship.

Among the teams that outperformed predictions was Twisted Minds, who tied for fourth place alongside Virtus Pro. This Saudi Arabian organization made waves by winning not one but two events during EWC 2025 – Warzone and PUBG: PC. Another unexpected success story was All Gamers from China, who placed sixth overall. They triumphed in two regional niches, Honor of Kings and Crossfire. However, it was their second place finish in the League of Legends event that truly turned heads, demonstrating that their third place at the Mid-Season Invitational was no lucky streak.

How impactful was the Club Support Program?

During the evaluation of the Club Championship 2025 final standings, it’s worth highlighting that 40 out of the competing organizations received financial support exceeding six figures from the Esports World Cup – an enhancement from the 30 organizations at the Esports World Cup 2024. Intriguingly, 19 out of these 40 teams were fresh entrants in EWC 2025.

I was fortunate enough to receive a grant from the Esports World Cup Foundation, which enabled my gaming organization to compete in various game genres. Consequently, we started recruiting players for upcoming titles like Tekken 8, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Street Fighter 6, and even Chess, expanding our gaming horizons significantly!

70% of top 20 teams were in the EWC Club Partner Program

At the Esports World Cup 2025, approximately 7 out of every 10 teams in the top 20 had received financial support through the 2025 Club Partner Program. Notably, six esports organizations made it to the top 20 of the Club Championship without being part of the official Club Partner Program.

9th position was held by Kuaishou Gaming, followed closely by DRX in 10th, Aurora Gaming in 11th, Team Heretics in 13th, DetonatioN FocusMe in 14th, and Al Qadsiah ending up at 20th place.

As an avid fan, I’ve been blown away by the achievements of these non-affiliated teams. They’ve shown that success is indeed possible, but let’s be fair when considering the final results of the Club Championship. The disparity in financial backing among clubs can skew the outcomes, so it’s essential to approach the rankings with a touch of skepticism and understanding.

As we eagerly anticipate the return of the Esports World Cup next year, a question lingers: Will financial backing continue to be the key factor determining success, or could underdog teams manage another surprise victory?
