ESL FACEIT Group layoff nearly 100 employees citing ‘strategic realignment’

ESL FACEIT Group is the latest to layoff employees in the esports industry.

More layoffs are hitting the esports world, with ESL FACEIT Group announcing around 80 to 90 job cuts today. This is the second significant round of layoffs for the company in less than a year, following similar cuts earlier in 2024.

ESL FACEIT Group goes through another round of layoffs

ESL FACEIT recently announced layoffs in an email sent on October 16, 2025, as reported by Richard Lewis of Insider. The email, likely from company leaders, stated the decision was made to simplify the business, improve efficiency, and concentrate on the most promising areas for growth.

ESL FACEIT Group has laid off approximately 80 to 90 employees as part of a company restructuring. Many of those affected were well-known within the organization, and most of the cuts appear to have come from the EMEA division, which helped organize the Esports World Cup events for 2024 and 2025.

The job cuts weren’t limited to just one department; people who worked on events like ESL One Birmingham were also affected. This focus on a single division raises questions about whether the Esports World Cup in 2026 will be produced differently.

What happens now at ESL FACEIT Group?

Although the recent changes at ESL FACEIT have caused a lot of concern, the company doesn’t anticipate any further job cuts for the rest of the year or in the near future. The company stated in its announcement about the layoffs that this restructuring is now complete.

This concludes this period of transition. Now that we’ve built a solid, long-term base, we don’t expect any further changes of this magnitude. We’ve strengthened our essential strengths and are now better positioned to support our partners and customers in the future.

While the company stated there won’t be layoffs “of this scale,” it’s possible smaller cuts could happen in the future. ESL FACEIT has had several rounds of layoffs since the merger in 2022, but currently, they’re focused on developing the future of esports.
