The cartoon that jump-started the franchise is about to have a new streaming home.
The classic 1987 animated series of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” is now moving to its new, completely free home on the streaming platform, Tubi. Starting June 1st, you can stream “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” on Tubi.
The original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic books by creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, published by Mirage Studios, marked the start of the franchise. However, it was the 1987 animated series that catapulted Turtlemania into the cultural sensation it became. This is where each Turtle’s distinctive colored bandannas, catchphrases, and their fondness for pizza were first showcased. Notable voice actors like Cam Clarke, Barry Gordon, Rob Paulsen, and the late James Avery, known for his role as the Shredder, lent their talents to the series.
The Heroes in a Half-Shell Remain Popular
The animated adaptation of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” first aired on North American television on December 28, 1987. This groundbreaking series quickly became a pop culture phenomenon unlike any other. Over the span of ten seasons, the show produced an incredible total of 193 episodes before concluding in 1996. The “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” series is often praised as one of the best animated shows ever made and has been referenced in various spin-offs within the broader “TMNT” franchise, including the 2009 special “Turtles Forever”.
Starting next week, it’s great news for fans of the franchise that the 1987 animated series will be available for free streaming. This is particularly welcome after the disappointing announcement about its upcoming feature film. Back in mid-May, it was revealed that Paramount Pictures had moved the film from their release calendar, with its original theater release date being Oct. 9, 2026. Now, fans will have to wait a bit longer, until Sep. 17, 2027, to see the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles back on the big screen again.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be available for streaming on Tubi beginning June 1.
