Just a few short years ago, Jake Thrupp was a rising star in Sydney’s eastern elite.

As a young producer often seen by the side of seasoned broadcaster Alan Jones, this protege was a recurring topic among society writers, who frequently hinted at his close proximity to Jones.

Jones, a close acquaintance of the Thrupps, helped forge a friendship with Jake when he did, as Jake had just relocated from the Gold Coast to Sydney University. Despite leaving the radio industry, Jones continued to employ Jake even after he was no longer on air.

After barely any time had passed since his ascension, Jake seemingly disappeared without a trace. Since then, the enigma of ‘Where is Jake?’ has been a hushed topic among the social and political circles in Sydney.

Instead of residing in the eastern suburbs, he ultimately relocated to a location as distant as possible – a nation that has a particular significance in the heart of his previous mentor.

I, as a lifestyle aficionado, ventured from the intensely competitive environment of Sydney, a city where envy seems to thrive like wildfire, to the shores of England. Interestingly, England was once home to Jones, a transformative figure who coached the Wallabies and previously served as a teacher in the early 1970s. Remarkably, his life intersected with the law back in 1988, adding an intriguing chapter to his biography.

Having established myself in the conservative Australian commentary circle, I’ve now found myself right in the thick of British politics, serving as a parliamentary researcher and speechwriter.

Of special note to those keeping track of his career, it’s intriguing that he is currently dating an elegant Australian woman – both being expats, she inherits a substantial fortune in the fashion industry.

This week, we managed to get together with Jake, who’s 28 years old, for a belated conversation. He has moved past the gossip from before and is eager to discuss his fresh start as an influential figure in Whitehall.

He remarks that London, being a global metropolis, is never short of activities or sights – there’s always something to explore or discover.

I’ve spent two years in this place, encountering fantastic individuals whom I believe will be lifelong friends. The only downside? Well, the gloomy winter seasons, naturally. Being a surfer, it can be challenging here.

Despite some people viewing Jake’s relocation to Britain as opportunistic, following the charges against Jones for multiple sexual offenses last year (for which he has pleaded not guilty), Jake insists that his desire to study in the UK was a long-held aspiration.

‘Simply because you can access some of the best thinkers in the world,’ he adds.

1. ‘Studying War at King’s College London provided me with this knowledge. While it might sound cheesy, being located near Europe allowed me to gain insights into individuals from various parts of the globe.’

3. ‘I gained valuable knowledge on war studies at King’s College London, and being situated in close proximity to Europe gave me the opportunity to learn extensively about individuals from different global regions.’

4. ‘King’s College London’s War Studies program provided me with a wealth of knowledge. Being based near Europe made it possible for me to study people from all over the world.’

5. ‘My education in War Studies at King’s College London was enlightening. Having Europe as my neighbor enabled me to gain insights into individuals from various regions across the globe.’

Jake, having recently secured admission to Cambridge for advanced learning, continues to hold the main ambition in his life to “bring about change” or “contribute significantly”.

For quite some time, his professional life revolved around the media, disseminating narratives and viewpoints that aligned with his political ideologies. Now, however, his ambition extends far beyond this; he aspires to prevent a global catastrophe like World War III.

Lately, I’ve shifted my attention towards the increasing dangers that are prevalent in our volatile environment, and devising strategies to prevent war. This involves comprehending the issues at hand, crafting a compelling storyline, and discovering effective solutions,” he explains.

From the vibrant, more progressive landscape of British politics, I find myself, Jake, realizing a dream nurtured in my childhood years amidst Australia’s more traditional conservative setting.

‘Working in the UK Parliament is truly special,’ he says.

Admittedly, I have a strong interest in British politics, and I’ve delved deeply into numerous biographies and memoirs about this topic throughout the years.

Experiencing the halls to encounter Winston Churchill’s grandson, ex-Labour leader Neil Kinnock, or even shaking hands with David Cameron – these are moments that feel surreal. The most awe-inspiring encounter I’ve had thus far was being in the vicinity of Downing Street last year and running into then-Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

Although Jake appears to be making progress regardless of Jones’ support, what really stands out is his relationship with his partner.

As a lifestyle connoisseur, I’m currently in a relationship with Tiffany Bowen Hughes – a remarkable lady whose mother, Linda Bowen, is the visionary behind the popular Dotti chain of fashion stores. Educated at the prestigious Kambala School in Rose Bay, she now graces the city with her presence, working for a renowned fashion designer.

They initially crossed paths in Sydney some time ago and instantly connected. Over subsequent meetings arranged by mutual acquaintances, they eventually formed a romantic relationship. As put by Jake himself, “and since then, the events that followed can be considered as history.

In a turn of events, Tiffany accompanied Jake to England since he got accepted into King’s College London, which had grown quite serious.

Society reports suggest that she isn’t politically active like her boyfriend, but they are inseparable in other aspects of their lives. Frequently, they flee the bustle of the city to travel to Wales, a place with strong connections to her grandfather’s heritage.

 

We inquired about Jake, who was once romantically linked with Britt Dietrich (a paralegal), as to how his distinct professions intersect.

As a lifestyle connoisseur, I find that the unique traits of creative individuals often draw me in. Their distinct perspectives and vibrant energy make them captivating companions. So, it’s not their differences that push us apart; rather, those very differences serve as a magnetic force bringing us closer together. Indeed, it is this allure that I find irresistible!

Tiffany has fashion flowing through her veins. Currently, she’s chasing her passion for it right here in England, and she’s steadily climbing higher and higher.

Currently part of London’s prominent young social circle, Jake and Tiffany often attend the Koala Gala in Mayfair. This annual event, which raises funds for the Australian Wildlife Conservancy, is where Australians living abroad can be seen and recognized. It was recently highlighted in a two-page article in the influential society magazine Tatler.

Regarding Jake’s most cherished moment from his London journey alongside Tiffany, he mentions that it was the day following when he submitted his thesis, and then they jetted off to Vienna to catch a Coldplay concert together.

When inquired whether they might have weddings or children in their upcoming plans, Jake was certain and responded: “Absolutely – we discuss it frequently.

He doesn’t know when, or if, he will ever return to Australia.

Considering the success Jake seems to be experiencing in England and the idle chatter he left behind in Sydney, it wouldn’t come as a shock if he decides to stay there permanently.
