The two morning radio personalities shared the painful news that their program, which had been running for twenty years, was abruptly canceled during a live broadcast, leaving them both crestfallen.
As your trusted lifestyle guide, I, John Dalziel or simply JD, struggled to hold back the emotions as Roisin McCourt and I announced the conclusion of our beloved Hits Radio West Midlands show.
In line with a nationwide overhaul, the well-liked local program hosted by the duo is set to depart the airwaves, paving the way for a nationally broadcasted version. This new show will be helmed by Fleur East, Will Best, and James Barr starting from June 9.
As they were only a few days away from their final performance on June 6th, JD seemed deeply affected by the axe, and he found it difficult to express his sentiments to their devoted fans about the upcoming announcement.
Speaking with evident emotion close to breaking, JD announced: ‘This is a difficult situation I find myself in, having to share some news with you. Here it is…’
Following nearly two decades on the air in this area, it’s time for us to conclude our program. We simply want to express our gratitude because it has been a pleasure being a part of your daily routines. We are deeply appreciative that you welcomed us into your lives.

Afterward, Roisin pondered over her time spent on the program that airs throughout Herefordshire on 97.6FM, a period during which she became a mother.
She stated: ‘From my perspective, I believe I have three kids – aged 13, 9, and 5 – and I’ve been the one waking you up every morning. However, I will now be at home doing that instead, which they might either enjoy or dislike.’
You’ll encounter a lady driving erratically in a Citroen through Coundon, be cautious. After all, it’s been an amazing 21-year journey on this breakfast show, and we truly appreciate your support!
Afterward, JD took a moment to contemplate the amazing odyssey they had embarked on for the past twenty years, during which they encountered numerous facets of life.
He passionately expressed: “Our experience here has been nothing short of extraordinary. After all, we’ve essentially grown up on this stage, living our lives in full view. We’ve welcomed children, navigated various relationships, faced breakups – you name it.
However, let me tell you something interesting. There’s no greater joy than sharing my voice with the community I consider my own. It’s the place where I was born and raised, a location that will forever hold a unique significance for me.
You’ve been an integral part of our day-to-day existence, including the joyous moments like weddings and the challenging ones like breakups. It seems that in some places, children may have been given names inspired by us.
Beginning on June 9th, our brand-new morning breakfast show is arriving. I’m familiar with these folks, and they promise an excellent way to start your day. They have plenty of exciting plans lined up for the summer ahead.

Later, he took a moment to express gratitude towards his long-term acting companion, stating, “However, I simply wanted to extend my deepest thanks to you first and foremost, Roisin. You’ve been my confederate in mischief. You’ve brought laughter into my daily life.
You’ve been the core essence of our show, pouring out your spirit to not only me, Paul, but also the entire West Midlands community. Your humor has touched us every day, and I’ll miss those daily laughs with you, Paul. You have an uncanny ability to find humor in even the most unlikely situations.
Supporters swiftly expressed their feelings about the duo on their verified X account, some announcing that they plan to stop listening to them once they depart.
I’ve shared this sentiment elsewhere, but I can’t help but feel disappointed. You radio hosts make my long morning commute more enjoyable. It’s truly unfortunate that local DJs like yours will no longer be on air at Hits Radio UK and Hits West Mids. I’ll continue to tune in until June 6th and wish you all the best in your future endeavors. This news is hard to take.”
The message conveys the same sentiment as the original, but is written in a more natural and easy-to-read language.
‘Well that’s us not listening in every morning then. Where are you guys going?’
I must admit, my mornings will feel quite different without you all. As for me, I’ll likely discover new tunes to start my day with.
‘Totally disappointed! I’ll really miss you! There was a concern that this might happen with the rebrand and shift towards national shows instead of local ones. However, I understand if it’s not in your plans or desired by all three of you – but many listeners would be willing to tune into whichever station you choose.’
